2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Battery power drain...again

Have a similar problem to the post below. Drawing . 407 A with the truck shut down. Isolated the two batteries and started pulling fuses. 407 MA drops to 15 MA when I pull the 'Ignition Run' fuse. Any ideas as to where to search from here? 1998 12V Manual 2500.

Check your glove compartment light. I pulled mine and it cured my battery drain problem. Many here have had the same problem. Not sure if it is on the "Ignition Run" fuse though.

Nope, the light is not the problem. Any possibility it is related to the cruise control? It has been working intermittently lately.

This has been a problem for a few others. My 99 has a 456 milliamps draw when shut down. With the IOD fuse pulled, it drops to 6 MA. It is an ST, so does not have some of the things that may be drawing, such as glove box light, etc. So far, I have unplugged the headlight switch, radio, both light switches on the doors, and the seatbelts. Some have found the seatbelt circuit as the culprit. Not me. When I get some time, I'll unplug the ignition switch to see what effect it has. As a short-term fix, I pull the IOD fuse when the pickup will be sitting for any length of time and have had no problems. If I don't pull it, my batteries will drain in a matter of days. I'll track it down eventually, but it sure has been frustrating. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Bud. I am using the same process of pulling the fuse when the truck sets and checking various elements of the Ignition Run circuit. No luck so far. Tracking down components of the cruise control right now. Will post if I find anything.

On my 1998 quad cab the seat belt solenoids draw 100ma for 30 minutes after ignition-off, to enable an escape after an accident. This may account for some of your draw. I leave the driver's window down, shut the door, and come back after 30+ minutes to trace any other current draws.

Thanks for the info. Was aware of the seat belt solenoids and have waited, but maybe not 30 min. Will test again with a longer wait. Thanks

I've got 2 '98s that the seat belt selenoids drain the batteries after a few weeks. It drives me insane, but I don't know what I'm gonna do about it. Can those be replaced?
