Since it has been so cold now and my truck only gets run about 5 miles every other day, my batteries died tonight.

These batteries always leaked acid so I don't think I'll go with the D/C batteries. I remember seeing some red "optima" batteries on the forum a while ago... anyone recommend/not recommend these?

Mark, I personally don't have them but I have seen a bunch of drag racers use them, the lower buck guys run them adn the high buck guys run 16 volt stuff, personally I would get them if the price was right. I did see one guy(can't remember his name) at the Dallas Dyno session running a pair and he swore by them.

Someone else chime in.

Jim-

Optimas seem nice buy pricey according to old posts (~$130 each. ) No one has them here in Ft. Fun so I'll go with Durlast Golds from autozone for now.

Costco has red top Optima's @$100. In a prior thread someone found them via internet for the same price, don't recall the source.

If you plan to run alot of electronics... . stereo, CB, scanner, radar detector, gtech dyno. ..... ect...

Get the optima YELLOW TOP. one of the best investments ever. specially in the cold climates. 800 cold cranking amps

And a ultra fast recharge if they do ever go dead

Chris

I have the "Interstate" Model of Optima's.

Made the same!!! Some what cheaper.

Check with your local Interstate Battery Dealer.

optima's are good choice

azcummins, I have used the same optima (red top) in our pro-modified mud racer for 4 years, re-charge it after every race during race season (no alternator). It sets in the racer all winter without a re-charge and has never went dead. When time comes I will be using them in the truck.

Red tops at Costco $99. 00 cheapest I don't have them yet but OEm bat's 1-1/2 yers old but seem strong when time will go with red tops.

Mark,

Try Ft. Collins 4x4. It's on College Ave north of Old Town close to Jax on the west side of the street. The guys there are easy to talk to and generally know what they are talking about. They're prices are usually pretty competitive.
