I have relocated batteries on my '98 2500 and need advice as to plunger-type battery temp sensor. This unit was discovered when I removed driver-side battery. Would it be best to leave sensor under hood with plunger up, down, or extend wires and install in relocated battery box with plunger depressed by new battery? Any consequences to eliminating sensor altogether?

I relocated the batteries for a buddy under the pass side bed. After much debate we decided to do nothing about the temp sender, just left it in place. He's never complained of a charging problem and I'm sure he would if there was one. Guess it doesn't matter too much but I have heard of a no charge problem when the sensor goes bad.

temperature sensor

The temperature of the battery is important for the PCM to know. It sets the charging voltage based on this because the battery chemistry is temperature sensitive. If I were moving the battery I would move the sensor also. It is an RTD, so polarity isn't important. Just extend the wires as needed.
