Battery Tray DooDad

While I was trying to remove my drivers side battery tray (did not get it, got the 4 bolts in tray, but it appears there are more behind splash shield in drivers wheel well and was running out of time) this thing popped out of bottom of tray. It has wires going somewhere under the battery tray, but cant see because the danged battery tray wouldn't come out. I have no idea of its' purpose. Whut is it pray tell?
I managed to splice my cruise control actuator vacuum line (broken) with a piece of windshield washer hose per another thread. I wanted to replace the complete line, but the danged battery tray would not come out. Maybe next time when I am not in a hurry.
I read in another thread that the battery hold down bolts are no longer available, so I bought some 6mm allthread and nuts to take care of that problem, but I did not get that done either becasue.. you guessed it.. the danged battery tray would not come out!

It is a temperature sensor for the batteries. Depending on the ambient temperature outside, the amount of voltage of the battery receives varies. The colder outside the more the battery is charged. The hotter outside, the less it is charged.

I never would have guessed that. The plastic on the face is cracked, is it something I need to be concerned about?

Yes, start looking for a replacement. The wires go to the PCM and control charging voltages.

Am I right that I pull the wheel well cover to get to the other battery tray bolts?

If you haven't tried it already, try prying up on the plastic part of the sensor and see if it won't come out through the hole it is mounted in????? bg

If the battery hold downs shown above are the right length, the tray may not have to be removed. The plan was to fab home made battery hold downs and needed access to back of the tray. I was going to replace the cruise actuator line and the temp sensor while I was in there. With all the hoses and cables it is nearly impossible to see what is going on down there but I believe the last two nuts are behind the wheel well cover. I will get it.

The sensor is not a problem, it is falling out on its own.
The problem was the battery hold downs being unavailable, if the battery hold downs posted by NIsaacs above are the right length, there will be no need to pull the tray. The plan was to fab home made battery hold downs and I needed access to back of the tray to install nuts on the all thread I purchased. I was also going to replace the cruise actuator line and the temp sensor while I was in there. The tray looked easy at first, but there are two bolts pressed into a bracket barely visible on the bottom left of the tray. With all the hoses and cables it is nearly impossible to see what is going on down there but I believe those last two nuts are behind the wheel well cover. I will get it.

You don't have to remove the inner liner, at least I don't have to. There are two nuts near the bumper bracket that need to come off.

I got new trays and hold downs back in April 2017 from Quirk Parts.

Some one had hole sawed the drivers tray to get access to the cruise control actuator, which when they did drilled thru the actuator, so it was quite the useless mess of parts.

I had to remove my inner fenders because someone incorrectly installed some hardware.

So varies on what exactly has gone on prior.

My parts list is below. Pricey for a few trays but they were beyond shot. Hardware was not useable, all the new stuff fit, except I got yellow top batteries with additioal side posts that caused some issues with the new hardware for the hold downs. No show stoppers.
