Truck is a 2016 3500 DRW, 42,000 miles. It's set up with dual alternators. I bought it used in late September.

When I crank the truck the red battery symbol shows. After I run it a bit and the voltage comes up on the EVIC it still shows the red battery symbol. I had one battery go bad about two weeks after I got the truck. I replaced both. After it's been run a bit and shut down, I can disconnect one battery and both will show 13.7 or thereabouts on a hand held meter. When running they show 14.1, with both hooked up.

Would a diagnostic test rig show me if both alternators are charging ? I'm wondering how I might test that otherwise. If I could get a separate wire from the hot post on the alternator to an ammeter, then a wire to the battery positive, would it show the rate of charge ? Looks like with a little careful preparation I can do that, without unhooking any factory wiring.

I'm wondering if one alternator has quit, the truck might be reading a loss of amps into the batteries, altho the other alternator is charging the system. I don't have a clue how the two alternator system works.
