What battery are you guys running in your 1st Gen trucks. I just bought my first gen truck and the guy has a walmart special 600cca battery in it and that's no good. So what does everyone recommend? I have 2 new interstate that are 8?? CCA I am think bout installing.

If you have 2 new ones at 800+, that gets you 1600-1700 CCA, not bad. Will take a little fabrication, and some creativity to hold them down, but it looks to be better than $75-125 for a new one.

Most of us run a single Group 31 of one sort or another. Normally 1000-1100CCA; add a little more for normal crank amps.

I have a Everready I can't remember where I got it (Pepboys?). 1000 CCA it was pretty cheap and it's on it's fourth year. Might replace it this summer though I hate getting stuck when they go. All my batterys have just gave up without notice.

Go with what Daniel said

I went through 2 Group 31 batteries in the 14 years that I owned my 92 CTD.

The last battery was purchased from NAPA.

My truck is from Eastern Wash. state and it came with a Group 34 Optima Red Top. I just replaced it because it failed the start the truck after the radio and blower were on for a few hours. It was nearly 6 years old. I replaced it with a Group 31 Optima Yellow Top that is larger.

!st Gen Battery

I have a Decca 1231 in my '93. I think it is around 1200 CCA. . three years old an no problems so far.

When replacing my old battery in 3/2005, I went to Price Club, checked their application list, and bought a replacement from Kirkland for $68. 00. Much later I discovered that it has ONLY 600 cold cranking amps. Never had a hickup or an issue with it. Pulled a huge race car trailer with interior lights and everything with it. Again, seems to be more than sufficient for the truck.
