BD 2-Lo Install Help--Figured It Out

After I figured out the instructions were not worth two cents, I traced everything out on the truck and filled in all the missing info. Works great. Too bad I already have a BD exhaust brake... I would offer to write some decent ones for BD in exchange for one. :D

Well guys:

I'm having a hard time with the install right off the bat. First thing, BD says "remove tee fitting and hose line at the the front axle actuator and reinstall hose so the connection is back to stock. " There is no tee fitting that I can find.

I feel real dumb 'cause all the searches said instructions were great and finished install in an hour. I've been trying to figure step one out about 2 hours. :(

One more thing: Instructions are for 1030700 kit and I have a 1030703 kit.

Appreciate any advice,

Wiredawg

If you email me with specific questions, I can guide you through it. The instructions are NOT good. You have the newer design which is a little more complicated than the "original" but it is better. I've got company driving up the driveway, so I can't look up the specifics right now, but I should be able to get back to you by tomorrow sometime. Good luck,

David

P. S. I also drew a vacuum schematic that shows what it is doing.

Hopefully your truck is like my 97. . . the T fitting is hidden under and behind (slightly) the rubber weatherstrip that runs along the firewall/cowl and seals to the rear of the hood. Look around and you will find a vacuum hose/plastic tube running along there. The oher end of the T goes to the transfer case (a vacuum switch is on the top of it, with a rubber multi-plug taking the vacuum from the T on the cowl and sending it to the front axle disconnect vacuum "motor. "

All you are doing is taking the vacuum signal from the T fitting and splicing in the 2-low switch between the T and the line going to the transfer case.

BD is OK!

Hey Dak:

I'm one of those weekend mechanics, so I couldn't really get help from BD on Sat. I certainly would've called on Monday had I not managed to figure it out. Also, I wasn't aware you had three generations of this kit.

Don't be perterbed. I was mostly poking fun at y'all. :D I do have to admit after I figured out and got past having the wrong instructions, it really didn't take long to make an accurate schematic and make it work.

BTW: I still recommend your exhaust system, exhaust brake and now this 2-Lo kit to my fellow Rammers (and a few Ford friends). All quality made and work well ;)

Happy Trails, Wiredawg
