So I ordered a BD 2 Low Unloc kit. This allows you to use low range on your four wheel drive transfer case without having the front wheels driven. This is a massive advantage if you need to maneuver a heavily loaded trailer or be heavily loaded, use the extra torque and slower speed, all while not binding the drive line up or scuffing the front end around. It works like a champ.

However, there was one big stumbling block for me. Where to mount the switch.... The instructions suggest under the 4wd selector knob, that’s where I’d liked to have had it. Or perhaps the bolster panel.

Nope. None of that will work. The bolster panel is multi-layered and quite thick. There’s also plenty of stuff mounted to it and behind it to include the ignition box that it really prevents any switch mounting. I didn’t get a picture of the back side of the center stack, but that thing is so busy it’s not funny. What looks to be an empty panel under the 4wd selector knob is actually part of a module that encompasses the knob and neutral selector button. Not gonna work there....

I ended up mounting the switch just forward and up of the drivers side center console map pocket. It’s not ideal, but your knee won’t contact it and it is visible, not obstructed. I can also mount another switch just below it.

I was hoping for some real estate where a few extra switches could’ve been mounted. Now I kinda wish this truck had the outfitter switches. LOL

I suppose this thread is more about where to mount extra goodies/switches for trucks that don’t come equipped with outfitter switches or don’t want to install them.

Any suggestions for other owners out there? What did you do?

I mounted my 2low switch on the lower left panel below the headlight dial. Cheapest part to replace if needed.

Upfitter switches are designed to supply power. The BD 2 low kit only requires continuity. It pulls its power from the factory wiring.
