I installed my BD brake Saturday that was purchased on the group deal. Everthing works fine except the gear shifter mounted switch rattles like crazy. The red knob and shaft seem to be very loose in the switch. Is this the way they all are or do I have a defective one? Anyone have a fix? May try to cut and glue an O-ring ot the switch body to apply some friction to the shaft.

Mine does that too, I've been told, "They all do that. " My solution was to wrap a small rubber band over the shaft. Double it as many times as you can. It will act as a cushion and keep the shaft from rattling when the switch is off. However, it won't do any good when the switch is on. No big deal for me, the switch usually isn't on for very long.
Enjoy your exhaust brake, once you get used to having it there, you'll wonder how you got along without it. For me, it's a habit to always flip it on whenever I'm slowing down, for a red light, going downhill, etc.

Question on the new BD brakes: Does the brake interface to the ECM fueling signal similar to the Jacobs unit, or does it still use a micro-switch on accelerator to disable the exhaust brake? Wondering how this works with the BD brake. Thanks.

They do all do that. The solution is to put a rubber band around the stick shift and the red button so that the button is pulled towards the shift lever. It doesn't have to be very tight - just a very light pressure. This works with the button on or off.

Interesting posting - I had the same problem and fixed it to the point it was forgotten about. All I did was to cut two small O-rings, the right size for the shaft, and that was it. The rings will not fall off and do not interfere with the electrical switch.

Ski Bum, unless things have changed in the last four months, the micro-switch is still used.

All ebrakes that use a microswitch can be converted to ECM control just like the Jacobs. Simply tap into Pin 20 on the ECM connector with a #22 wire. Run the wire to one side of a small relay coil (100 mA or so WITH reverse EMF diode) and ground the other side of the coil. Then just connect the relay contacts in place of the foot microswitch and presto no more annoying clicking in the cockpit!

P. S. There is about a 1. 5 second delay from pedal idle to ebrake activation. Helps prevent ebrake cyclying while down shifting.

Hey Ron,

Where did you find a relay? 100ma is a pretty small relay coil. Do you happen to know what kind of amperage the operating contacts will draw. I think the BD Brake is fused at 5 amps.

I'd like to build my own Pin20 box.

Thanks

Thanks Steve, I never thought of that! I put a rubber band over the shaft and the shift lever, and no more rattling, on or off!! This is probably one of the only modifications I could do to my truck while doing 70 mph!
