I am pretty well sold on the BD e-brake. Just 2 questions:

-Can I use the air compressor for airing up tires and air bags?

-Is there a delay in the brake while shifting? I hope so, because I have a manual...

Thanks!

i think there is a off throttle delay with all the exhaust brakes that are ecm wired. . [i don't have an ex. brake so i can't say for sure]

as for air, i think you will be good for air bags, but not sure about airing up tires [lots of volume needed there]

I have the BD brake. There is a small delay while shifting. If you drive it easy it is not enough of a delay. I just turn it on and off as needed. I did plumb into the regulator and now have a quick disconnect under the hood. I can run the truck while using the brake and airing something up, as the exhaust brake will release pressure as soon as air is passed through the quick disconnect. Hope this this helps.

I have a 2 1/2 gal air tank with a quick disconnect for an air hose with my BD 4 inch inline system. I also added a switch in the cab to manually turn on the compressor.
I keep a 100 lbs of air in the tank. Works well.

I have yet to get a back issue copy of TDR#46 which describes the BD exhaust brake in detail. None of the other threads that I have found have described it sufficiently and I am very interested in the BD . It seems like a very well designed and well built unit. Please do share your experiences in installing it and operating it. Specifically, I would like to know if it can be either ecm controlled or manually operated and your experiences with either type of activation. Also, I am wondering about the quality and CFM rating and duty rating of the compressor and recommended locations for installation on a 2005. Any photos would be highly appreciated. Also, I need to know if the installation of a BD exhaust brake would preclude the installation of another turbo later on. Is it an inline or turbo mount unit?? While I am not trying to pan the PXRB, what do you guys think about the quality of build as compared to the PXRB. TIA for all your answers and time.

CFish- I'll keep you informed if no one else is able to answer your questions. BD had a copy of the instruction/installation manual on their website. Mine will be inline, so I have all options open when I swap turbo's later on.

Palladin1911, just curious why you chose the BD. Also wondering what vehicle you are installing it on and if you are stock or modded. I'll check out the website, but do please keep me informed as you progress. Other people have info and experiences installing and operating with this exhaust brake?

I've been using my BD brake for 125K or so. Only porblem is the pivot points need to be cleaned up once or twice a year due to roadsalt. I have the inline brake. The delay is adjustable via the little box with all the wires running to it. There's a little screw on it that sets the delay. Just turn it til the brake comes on then back it off until the brake shuts off. That will totally eliminate any delay. I have a on/off switch on my shift lever that I flip probably 100 times a day. I prefer that to the ECM control.

I have the BD compressor mounted in the fender like the instructions say. It fills a 3 gal (I think) tank that I mounted under the bed, right over the muffler. I use the tank for the brake and the airbags. Simply run the line from the tank to the regulator to supply the brake. You'll die of old age before you pump up a tire with just the compressor and no tank.

Get the BD brake. You won't regret it.

CFish, if you think you may want to change turbos sometime down the line, do not buy the direct mount brake. Buy the BD 4" remote mount. I have one on both my 01 and the 06 truck. Only brake I will buy. I cant help you on your BD compressor questions, as I already had the engine driven Kilby on board air system before installing the BD brake on the 06. We bought the BD brake without the air system and used our own.

I have a BD brake on my 05 six speed and it works well. The only problem I have had was with the installation of the compressor under the fender, it rattles on bad bumps, so make sure that it will not move on bad bumps. On our trip to Alaska it got to be a bother. You have to remove the fender liner to fix it so I have not fixed it. I use a separate compressor for my bags that I mounted in the rear fender well and it does not rattle. One compressor would do both jobs but I did not want the mess with my brake as it was working so well. I have the on/off switch on the shift and as said by others it is easy to switch on/off as needed, at a light, stop sign, or slow traffic. The brake is great. Hope this helps, Dave Mc

I stuffed a piece of fom under the unbolted corner and that fixed it for about 2 years. It must have worked its way loose and needs to be "fixed" again. Before the BD brake went in I had a compressor mounted to the bed. That sucker vibrated the whole dang truck when it was running. I like the fener mount, but it does need a little bumper of some sort.

Hey all, thanks for all the input so far. Paladin 1911, I am definitely interested in hearing more as you progress with this install. I will call BD eventually to get more info and will also post it here as I learn more.
