Today my exhaust brake froze in the on position, and the egt's go thru the roof,I was two miles from home and figured I'd head to the shop, after manually moveing the arm and seeing that it wasn't stuck I tapped the solenoid valve case with channel locks and it shifted the spool. I removed the line and sprayed the inside of the solenoid valve with a little WD/40 and then turned it off/on several times. Has any one else had this happen? One note, a man should keep a short length of wire so if for some reason the brake won't turn off ya can tie it open becuse you can not drive with any rpm like this. Sorry so long.

It happened to me recently and it was a bad solenoid. I called BD and they sent me a new one - all fixed. They mentioned that moisture can get into the solenoid and cause problems (primarily because of power washing the engine).

Same thing happened here ... but mine stuck open thank goodness ... a little break free and some manual movement of the spool . . all is well now.

Are those of you with problems using your e-brake on a daily basis?

I'm considering the BD brake. I thought that it was basically maintainenace free. I do like to keep my engine clean. Is this a widespread problem. Any preventative measures you can take?

It happened to me after about 50K Mi I use the brake everyday. The guys at BD recommend that you use it daily I am sure it helps. The first time it stuck I figured out that it was the little air switch that operates the brake. the piston had moisture in it and I just cleaned it out and it worked fine for about another six months then stuck again. This time I replaced it. It took about 10 min. and has worked fine since then. I believe the brake is very reliable and If you undrstand the basics of it you wont ever get stuck! Good luck i would most definitly buy another BD brake.

Yes I use mine daily and some how it seems to be moisture in the valve,BD is sending another solenoid valve but had to put in on a credit card and send the old one back and wait for a credit, bummer, but they did stand behind it.

My solenoid switch came "stuck" right out of the box (used on the 2LO kit). They sent me a new kit though. Seems like these switches aren't overly reliable.

My breather hs been up under the hood since installation,I think that the moisture in the air freezes the spool,as I haven't pressure washed near the valve.
