BD Exhaust Brake Noise

I recently had installed a BD Exhaust Brake with a 4" CAT back. on a '01 3500 6 speed manual HO engine. It sounds much louder than when I had one installed on my '95 3500.
The noise seems to be coming from the right side of the truck where the exhaust brake is. And quiets down in 5th and 6th gears. Can anyone tell me why this is so, and is there any way to dampen the level of noise?

The Pacbrake on my 2001 ETH is louder and more agressive than the one on my 1995. But I like the way it sounds. I have the truck loaded mear the max gvw all the time and the exaust brake works VERY GOOD!!!!!!!!!

Is the noise occur when the brake engages or jsut when running down the road? If it is just when engaged maybe there are some head to exhaust gaskets or turbo mounting gasket is leaking? Is the exhaust pipe hitting some where?

As the largest BD dealer/installer on the east coast, we have been installing quite a bit of exhaust brakes in the past two years. We also notice that the exhaust brake sound is definitely more prominent on the 24 valve engines than on the 12 valvers. It almost sounds like a jake brake.

You have described it perfectly! Like a mini Jake brake. Is there anything I can do to reduce the noise? Has it anything to
do with the 4" CAT back system?

Check the exhaust manifold bolts. The back ones on a 24valve have a habit of coming loose.
