Hey guys, I have a question about my old BD brake. It is approx 7 years old and I pulled it off of my 2000 I used to have. I was planning to put it on my '02 but never bothered to do it. I now have my '05. I don't know if this will work on my truck as it is supposed to work off of vacuum. Would it be worth it to have the BD i have modified to work or would i be better off to just buy a new one that is built for my truck such as the pacbrake? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

turbo mount

From what I can remember it mounted behind the turbo. If it is too small I guess I will have to get rid of it.

pacbrake

I would rather have a pacbrake as they come with air compressor and air tank and as far as i know are easy to install.

BD's includes the compressor and a nifty bracket for out of the way mounting. The compressor is top-notch.

I had someone else do the install so I guess I don't know how easy/difficult it was.

Cattletrkr, I am wondering why you think the BD compressor is top notch. Is it US made?? All metal housing?? High CFM rating?? Does it come with a storage tank also?? I, too, am still trying to decide between PXRB and BD and would like to base my decision on quality of the compressor as well as the brake unit. Thanks for the details which you, or anyone else can fill in. Anybody able to chime in on the merits/quality of the Pac compressor??

geusterman, I have the 6spd manual so no, no transmission issues related to the brake.

CFish,

I have had my BD brake for over 150K. I use it a lot. The BD kit does not include a tank, but I have one. I have cycled the compressor thousands of times with absolutely no issues. It doesn't fill the tank as fast as the compressor I had for the airbags which I haven't used since the brake went in, but that's never been an issue. The mounting plate allows the compressor to be mounted inside the fender well so it is completely out of the way.

I guess I can't say the BD compressor is any better than any other compressor. However with the trouble free usage I've had with mine, it would be hard for me to say there's a better one.

US made? Don't know, don't care. Truck is Mexican so the compressor might as well be Canadian.

All metal housing? Don't remember. It's been over 3 years since I've seen it. I don't remember thinking, "geez, that's a crappy housing. "

High CFM? High enough to get the job done. I wouldn't want to have to air up a tire with it.

2006 megacab, 48RE

Installed a PRXB about 3 months ago myself. Not difficult at all. compressor mounts on the forward left side of the engine just ahead of the air intake horn. The unit works flawlessly. No complaints at all. Unit comes with a bag of air accessories, hose, tire filling chuck, etc. Nice. I don't know about the BD first hand, but after my research I went with the Pacbrake and I am completely satisfied. I got mine from Pacific Clutch and Brake.

Have fun installing, Mike in Florida
