2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission BD Power LED

I've had a BD Power low fuel pressure led on my 02 Ram for about six months and I suspect it has failed.

Last week while pulling my fifth wheel, the led came on. I pulled over and changed the fuel filter and everything seemed to be fine.

While telling a buddy about it I wanted to show how bright and noticeable it really was. I couldn't get it to light up. It's wired to the reverse light fuse so it would normally come on witht the key in the "on" position and turn off once the motor was running.

This a. m. , I pulled the wire from sender and put it on the neg. batt. terminal and the led lit up. Makes me think the sender has failed.

My question is, is there an available sensor from another application that will work? I've tried three times to call BD and was put on hold for an eternity. Do you all think that BD would cover this anyway?

Right now a f. p. gauge is on the back burner b/c of Santa and all.

The device is pretty simple. I have only seen one it a bag, but all it appears to be is a pressure switch, an LED, and some wiring.



Do a google search for 5psi pressure switch. You should be able to find one without too much trouble.

I was thinking guys use to get those "hobbs switches" from Napa...

Mine is wired to an ignition hot lead in the PDC.

When it comes on, there is no fuel pressure.
Maybe your fuel pump died? It has been known to happen.....

For the sake of conversation, run hot to the battery for a while and see if it operates. The drain on an LED is minimal.

Cyborg, I don't understand what you mean. When the light comes on, there's low/no pressure. My light won't come on. The light still works, I checked it this morning.

I finally got in touch with BD, the switch is still under warranty. But they want the old one before a new one is sent.

I did a quick search for the "Hobbs" switch at napaonline and cam up with nothing.

Chuck that piece and get a gauge. I went throughout 3 of those things before I finally sold my last truck. Now I have a friend that has the same set up and he has been through 2 of them. They obviously have some kind of quality control problem with the pressure switch (Not made by BD).



If you take and apply side pressure to the blade coming out of the switch the light will work. I was using wire ties to keep pressure on the blade (when they failed internally). The wire tie thing will keep you going until the Santa fiasco is gone (or caught back up).

I know an actual fuel pressure gauge is the way to go.

Hearing of all the failures of this setup is surprising. I thought the led would be trouble free.

Maybe I'll let "Mrs. Claus" read some of this and get the ok for a f. p. gauge after all.

There is a pressure switch fro Cummins that will likely hold up better. It comes in the Campaign pump pkg I beleive.

My dad has a BD LED in his 99... it is screwed into the top of the fuel filter (again, it's a 99)... he has had his over a year with no problems...



His is even direct to the battery... it is on sort of like an alarm LED when the truck is off and goes out when the truck is started (and has pressure)... serves two purposes...



It was late and I forgot to add that, not unlike the cause of the failing guages, the pulses from the VP44 might be killing your switch... you might need a snubber...

Thanks Bob4x4 for reminding me that I have two campaign lift pumps under my front seat. There is a switch with these and it works perfectly.
