Hi- need some feedback from drivers with the Pressureloc installed.

I seem to remember Bill K. telling us that with a properly set up PressureLoc, you could not feel any throttle pedal change when it engages.

1. With mine, when the PL engages, the throttle pedal feel gets very light.

2. Also, the trans is quicker to downshift on a hill when using the cruise control. Before the PL, it would hold OD longer on a hill.

3. The shift from 3 to 4 is very hard; feels like it shifts with the TC locked??

Does this sound normal, or do I need to get on the phone to the installer or BD Monday?

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike, I currently do not have the Pressure Lock, but after reading about people who have them and how they improve the transmission, I think I would like to get one.

My reply will push the question back to the top and hopefully get someone else who has a Pressure Lock to respond.

Mine is on the way as we speak #ad

Mike, I did my own Pressure Loc installation about 6 weeks ago. The only difference I noticed was at the point of TC lockup, the accelerator pedal would pull away from my foot. The instructions said to stretch the return spring on the Pressure Loc slightly and until the problem went away. I have been doig this every now and then a small amount and the problem is just about gone. I noticed no difference at all in any of the shifts from gear to gear. I hate to tell you this but I don't think my truck has ever needed to down shift on a hill. I live in the Mid-Atlantic area, no Pikes Peaks but reasonably steep hills. I do have the 4. 1 rear end ratio.

Mike, I had the PL installed last week and the installer was aware of the peddle problem. I have a slight peddle flutter when the TC locks up and the installer said you will feel the peddle move at that point. I would recommend you call BD and talk to Bill K. , Bill posted a long post on this board regarding PL. I hope this helps. I have one question::: you said your trans shifts out of OD on a hill. I thought that if the TC has been overidden with a switch or other device you can't shift down to 3rd.

Mike,
I have had my PL installed about a week and had a similar problem with the throttle feel, keep expanding the spring. When you watch the PL work, you would think you need to add a spring, I did and the PL grabed the throttle and no feel after lock-up. So off with the extra spring and back to expanding the Pl spring and it is working. One more adjustment and I think I will have it.

Good Luck,
Davem

Well, I called BD today.

I have the double acting cylinder (latest model) PressureLoc. There should be no return spring. Removed it and all is well with the pedal feel.

Premature downshifts and hard shifts indicate I need to adjust the kickdown cable. Since it's a three hour drive to the shop that put it in, I'll do that myself. No biggie.

Thanks, guys!

Mike

mike what trans mods do you have ? i am thinking of adding the PL to see if it will extend my TC life some till i have enough cash to rip into the trans .

Is it easy to install PL in a 1997 transmission, what is involved. Can I do it or do I have to take it to a shop?

Well, here's the current situation. I've been checking out what all the parts do; disconnecting things and testing- and so:

My SOPM (seat of pants meter) plus my tire smoke gauge tells me the low stall TC has given me a slower launch. Hmmm...

The valve body really did the trick; pressures are higher, slip is gone, shifts are firm. #ad
I've been advised that the hard 3-4 shift requires that I remove a spacer inside the valve body. I'll try that in a few days, no time now.

I would not have gotten the PL if I knew then what I know now. I can't see any case for installing this device except for use with exhaust brakes.

My two cents. (Actually, I spent a little more than that learning this lesson)

Wakely- sorry I missed you there; if you are mechanically proficient I don't see why you could not do your own PL.

It comes with very clear instructions, there is no need to go in the transmission. Everything is external.

Update-

I got first chance to drive some distance yesterday. With the PL disabled, I can slip the TC clutch with light throttle around 1500 rpm (blue box on).
At heavier throttle, no slip, since this drives clutch pressures higher.

I will be reenabling the PL. [mm. . mm; that was some tasty crow #ad

This confirms that "driving carefully" with an enhanced engine and stock trans is not the answer. The trans will slip more readily at light throttle than at heavy.

Hey Mike,Sorry to hear about the problems with the automatic,I put a pencil to the cost of the upgrades on the transmission and decided I would more cost effective to trade up for an ETH so I did. I really love the way it drives and handles. I loved my 98. 5 auto but I just couldnt see putting all that money in to the slushbox of a transmission.
