BD Short Shift-So far I don't like it..will it get better?

Just a note to say that I did eventually hear back from BD. The latest is that my info is being sent to "claims dept" for review. From the tone of the response, I am not optimistic of a quick resolution, but I will keep the board posted on this, as it will be important for anyone thinking of purchasing one of the short shift kits. I got some preliminary figures for the possible R&R of the NV5600. All I can say is and:{

ok, this is something I discovered a while back.



when running an aftermarket clutch on an ETH, the Pedal MUST be on the floor to prevent notchy shifting.



This means that at no time must a floor mat be under the pedal when depressed. Every now and then My floor mat gets kicked under the pedal... and I get notchy shifting.

The same thing is true with the stock clutch and shifter. Pedal has to be to the floor or the timing of the shift has to be perfect - drive train to engine rpm. It's a lot easier to make sure the clutch pedal is fully depressed than trying to time every shift perfectly.

Agreed. This trans. is a little like old non-synchro truck transmissions in a way. Tight, notchy, and cantankerous. The 5 speed is like soft butter in comparison. It surprised me when I first drove one that DC would chance putting such a grouch on today's market. My first reaction to the BD shift mod (after my liking the shortened throw) was that it increased the demands made on me to pay attention to my shifts. Even now the same is true. Sometimes I'll get a glitchy shift but if I repeat it right away to see if something had gone wrong, it's fine. I think that that's part and parcel of it's being so strong.
