I've used a short shifter on my 6 speed & been pleased with it, but I'd like to know if any one has experienced problems with theirs.

Pleased with mine, but they do leak#@$%!,i"v had to seal mine a couple of times in the last 4-5 years. It looks looks i"ll have to do it again in the spring cause when i changed my fluid last summer i saw some weeping from the top. I used silicon the last time but i"v had better luck with RTV sealant on my "Fastcooler" and "Quad4x4" manual transmission filter so thats what i"ll use next time.

Thanks for the responses fellows. Actually I was fishing to see if any one had serious transmission trouble as a result of using one. Mine has worked fine with no leaks & it turns out the transmission trouble is from a different source.

Pleased with mine and no leaks. Bought it from Geno's a year ago which was about a month after I bought the truck. I test drove my friend's 02 and man, what a difference. I forgot how much I liked my short shifter. :-laf

Whats up with your transmission Darkhorse?????

It's shelled. Let me explain. This is the truck that rolled over an embankment & landed on the roof. It lay inverted for 2 days then sat in a local salvage yard most of 2 years.

the rebuild went really well & I took repossession of it on Monday. It ran sweet out of the shop & seemed flawless for 20 miles. then at 50 mph steady speed on a 2 lane rural highway I felt a brief hesitation as if I'd tapped the brakes twice but no sounds. Alarmed I'm looking at gauges when suddenly the front end locks up & I'm leaving black marks with the front tires. To shorten the story, it seems rust from condensation in those 2 years dried up some bearings & maybe synchronizers. I've got a remanufactured transfer case & 6 speed on the way to the shop now.

Thanks for the update----still remember the pics of you in recovery mode, hope all is well/better. Merry Christmas DW

Thanks. I made a miraculous recovery. My neck is a little stiff & cramps at times but considering the close call I've got no complaints.

Ok, fellas, How much BETTER is the short shifter? And what exactly about it is better? Will it help with 'gate feel'? (Grabbing 3rd is sometimes problematic) Will it improve shift times?

Now, I'm not expecting it to shift like my Mustang GT, but better than a 'school bus' would certainly be nice. And as for missing 3rd, I figure that's more me than anything, but if I could improve my chances... :)

And yes, I understand the principle of what's going on here, just wondering if it's really worth the $$...

Thanks.

As said earlier, once you drive with one for a while and then by chance drive one without you will like the BD Shortshift,at least i do. DW

I like mine a lot. Whether it's worth the big bucks is pretty subjective. It shortens the throw & brings the whole thing a little closer to you. The NV 5600 is a big heavy transmission & it's not going to lend itself to speed shifting.
