5" Exhaust Questions

DPP 4" Exhaust Installed - 3rd Gen

I've done alot of searching about 6 speed shifting problems (because I have them) and want to know if the short shifter will fix some or most of the grind and notchy shifting? I CANNOT down shift from 5th to 4th or 4th to 3rd without reving up or stopping! Now I've just acquired a grind from 5th to 6th gear. Oil has about 2000 miles on it from a fresh teardown and inspection! Has shifted this way since installed and just when I think it's loosening up, it starts grinding from 5th to 6th:(

I have the BD short shifter on my truck. It does not grind gear or notchy, the gears to feel very positive going in though.

on the other hand... ...

It seams to help some but others like me. . got a bit worse. . in fact I'm still thinking about pulling it out as it seams to be getting worse even now...

Willard, that kind of "notchiness" is to be expected with some dual disc clutches. My Mitchell-equipped 5 speed shifts like that. What you're experiencing is the load on the syncros. Turn the engine off, and see how smoothly it shifts. A short shift kit won't help, the kit affects the shifter itself only.

You may not have the throwout adjusted correctly. Give Doug or Brian at Enterprise Engine a call, they can help.

To install or not to install....

I too am like Willyslover, I may take my B-D short shifter back out as for the most part I think it is harder shifting than the stock setup was. Just my . 02

I installed a BD Short Shift at 1600 miles, I'm now at 6000 miles it seems better on the upshift but downshifts (especially 5 to 4 take some real effort). Sometimes I wonder if it was worth the cost and effort. I hope it gets better over time. No grinding though.

I guess I've heard enough. I was considering getting one, but I'm not now. $200 is too much to spend on something that doesn't add power that I might not even like. No offense BD;)
