A good buddy of mine has a 2010 3500 6spd G56. He started out with an H & S programmer which he ran on mild most of the time. He popped his head gasket a few years ago. When he had that replaced and studs installed he put in a cam. It made a huge difference, low EGT (dropped 200+ F) better fuel economy and more hp. This past year he had his VGT turbo quit. And as he had done before (on his 08 that he had) he ordered up an aftermarket turbo. This time he bought the kit from BD with the super b special. He isn't so fond of the turbo. It has higher EGT to the point he has to get off the skinny pedal even when he's not pushing the truck. He had very low boost. I suspected the wastegate was opening on him. I got him to clamp off the wastegate line with vise grips and run it and his boost and EGT were a bit better. He set the wastegate to 38 psi I believe. He still has an EGT issue.
The specs on BD super b special are 64 compressor/ 71 turbine with a 14 cm housing? The turbo he ran on his 08 was only a 62 on the compressor and didn't have an EGT issue. It was a silverbullet turbo 62/71 14cm? It was a reg cab 6 spd truck.
what might be his problem? The engine breathes too easily with the cam to light the turbo? Bad turbo? Would a 12cm or 13cm housing give him more boost and lower EGT? He tows a lot with this truck and would like to drive it without watching the EGT like a hawk.
thanks
