I had my transmission and converter redone by BD in late November in my 97 12 valver. I use the truck to pull a 15,000 lb. 5er. My old transmission and early milled stator converter worked ok but I had a ton of shavings in the pan. I put a call into Steve at BDs transmission shop and all was set up for a look see into the shavings problem. It was finally determined that the converter was failing and was the cause of the shavings. Steve proceeded to remove the transmission and converter and went under the assumption that the transmission was probably trashed too. He said that the transmission, after dissasembly, was in great shape but he wanted me to be a satisfied customer and replaced the whole transmission with their latest upgraded system including more clutches in the front pack to help hold horsepower without slipping, all new seals and upgrades.
After some disscussion about what converter to use, it was decided that I would pay the upgrade from the old milled stator converter and go with their latest X converter.
Steve had the whole thing done in 3 days and he even dynod the transmission for over an hour and dumped the fluid and replaced the filter and fluid so I wouldn't have to in 1000 miles. He also took off the cooler lines and coolers and flushed them too to be absolutly certain there were no shavings in the system.
I knew I had a bad TPS and BD also went out of their way to replace that and deal with my after market insurance company on a busy thanksgiving weekend.
I can't say enough about their service... it was absolutly first rate. They gave me a deep discount on their X stator converter because of the troubles I had with the first converter which made it very easy on the wallet to upgrade.
I now, have had the newer transmission and converter in about 5 months and all I can say is WOW! The old system worked well enough but it didn't have punch! Off the line, pulling that heavy trailer, it seemed to take forever to lauch. Not so with their X converter. The truck launches now right off the line and with the govenor spring kit, it runs right up to about 3300 RPM real strong. It fades after that, but I don't think it's the transmission or converter... I think it's my foot getting scared. This converter coupled with the new firm shifting transmission pulls the trailer almost like a manual transmission but with out having to row down the freeway. It is nice! My only concern was the shift points were a little low given my capability to rev to 3800 RPM and my lockup was a little to sensitive to foot position.
I talked to Steve and he advised setting the TPS a little lower and he also gave me a spring to help spread out the shift points a little. Steve offered to do the adjustments there on Monday, it was late friday evening when it was completed, but I had to be back 1200 miles away at work Monday morning so I opted to do them myself later.
In closing, the whole event could not have been better and I looked at the trip to Canada as a chance to get away and enjoy the hospitality of our neighbors to the north and as a bonus, a transmission upgrade.
BD in general, and Steve in particular went way beyond the call to make me a satisfied customer and a happy X converter trailer pulling demon. Way to go BD!! Oo. Oo.
