I have the BD torque and valve body. This summer the the transmission will roar in 1st gear when it has been idling for awhile. I just changed the sensor just in case ,it was not going above 160

I have the magtek pan . It will only roar right off the bat, once you start driving it is quiet. The fluid is at the hook, and does not feel hot when I check it after running 50 miles on the interstrate. It does it more if I am pulling a trailer around city streets.

thanks RJ

Pardon the silly question but are you sure it's the transmission? Could the noise your hearing be the fan? Perhaps the clutch locks up after it sits for awhile and then frees up...

Just guessing...

Thats interesting , When does the cutch

operate? Does it engage when idling and free wheel when the rpm increases. It does sound like it coming from underneath. How do I check it and at 70K would it be suspect. Thanks RJ

The way to test your fan clutch is to unhook the spring tab on the front. Now try to rotate the pin in the center that the spring is still attached to. It should rotate about 45? degrees counter clockwise. The pin in mine was tight and didn't turn. Pegged the temp needle in Custer State park on the Needles highway pulling a small heavy trailer.

Or you could remove the fan. Best way is with a hammer and a long rod, pound on the edge of the nut. It's a left hand thread.

I am thinking it is the fan clutch instead of the transmission.

In the mornings, engine cold the blade does not spin free. If I spin it it will go about one fin. I read in search posts that it is supposed to freewheel 5 full spins. The roar is occuring more often, but I just moved to Tampa from Daytona and it is much hotter over here. It never came on in Daytona. Comes on during stop and go driving or extended idling, and goes off after about a block. If this is normal, that is fine but the freewheel spinning post , has me wondering if maybe it is dragging when cruising and this clutch is marginal. What would be the best option if need be? Thanks RJ
