I know that this is probably just a mockup... but is this how they actually ship the product (without provisions to hookup to the intercooler)?



I totally dig the use of 'v-band' clamps/flanges... to eliminate those pesky boots...

I handled a BD kit a couple weeks ago. Well, the turbos look the same.



I think most of the plumbing is not polished. It does connect back to the stock charge air cooler. Oil plumbing is included.

The turbo connect elbow is covered with header wrap. The connection to the larger turbo is an open flange with no divider, but the turbo housing does have the typical twin port inlet.

The final exhaust has a typical Marmon (flanged) outlet and a new downpipe is part of the kit.



Smaller turbo is a Schwitzer and larger is Borg-Warner labeled but appears to be Schwitzer design.



The "pesky" boots are replaced with silcone hose and constant torque band clamps (the ones with springs).



Really nice setup. I saw the kit at Mike's Custom Truck in Northwood, ND. Mike let me finger the parts and read through the instruction manual. They were installing this on a 95 that already has a fully ported head, PDR cam, marine pistons, 370 injectors, race pump, and a SBC dual disc clutch.

I think the owner will be pleased with his package?

Do they include 'plumbing' for the air cleaner and the air cleaner itself?



That '95 you mentioned is bound to make some darn good HP... who did the pump work?

The pump is from BD. Mike has been a BD shop for many years, but does get some stuff from Piers, too.



I don't remember the intake side of things. I was more interested in the turbos and how they mounted. I can call and ask them how it turned out.



The truck's owner is a pilot so that explains the need for speed.

Next step ... . EDMs.

I'm curious on the various twins packages that will work on these trucks especially for the street driver. The hands down winners for high dyno hp and still a repectable daily driver appears to be twins. The big single alone off some of the twins would be a pig to drive.

This is not trouble. Wife rolls her eyes everytime I say "I'm heading over to Mike's to see what they're working on... "

Wait till Mike starts putting together his three (3) Cummins 12 valved powered pulling tractor.



I don't know what the BD package rates for HP, but the 95 should go well into the 500's with this set-up. The HX-40 on there is a proven choke point.

The big (bottom) charger on most twins setups wouldn't spool until about 4000RPM without a big shot of NOS. :-laf



I totally dig the idea of a multiple engine pulling tractor with MULTIPLE 6BT's... that ROCKS. The multiple BBC powered tractors are cool and everything - but they're not diesel.



I gotta see that project in person once he starts working on it... and then of course see it in action!!



"HX-40" is a 4-letter word in my vocabulary... I don't think I'd ever bolt one onto anything I own.

Hey guys, I just thought I'd chime in here. I actually stopped over to visit Mike the same day he finished up that '95. He said it put down 500 to the wheels. The turbo kit looks like a well built system, probably spools very well and would make a great street driver. I did think the big turbo was a little small though, compared to the usual HT3B big charger on many twin setups.

I can't see using a big charger any smaller than an HTB3. It defeats the whole point of twins using such a small large charger.



There are folks running around with an HX40/Hx55 twins setup. I ask-- WHY? Why go through all the hassle of twins fabbing for only slight improvement over a single? My thinking is simple: if I want a 3:1 PR feeding my small charger, then I have to flow 3 times as much air as the small charger! That makes a B2/BB look more appealing than ever.

Don't let the size of the compressor housing fool you too much...



The compressor wheel that's inside of that bottom turbo's cold housing could have a NASTY 'trim'... one that will allow much higher pressure ratios and airflow than you'd expect out of a smaller housing.

Kendrick was using ball bearing (Garrett based) Turbonetics turbos for that infamous triple turbo project truck he was working on.



Making a 'Thumper' series turbo work in a twin turbo setup is easy. Paying for it is the hard part.

Both turbos on the BD twins are 300 series. The smaller turbo is comparable to a HX-40 and larger is comparable to a ones used on the old M-11 engine. I need to check the specs and see what turbo was on the M-11, but it definelty is not in class with a HT3B. HT3B are 14 liter chargers.



I want to know how Piers is doing on the VGT project.

It's easy, just buy it! The Big Brother is just about the same physical size as the 91mm, now the 106mm is a different story, in my truck I would have to notch the frame to make it fit!



There will come a time when turbo's spool too quick... . maybe not for the dyno! The Single Charger gasser guys are there and have been for 2 years!

1) write fat check

2) receive turbo

3) find twins fabricator

4) write fat check

5) fix headgasket by writing fat check

6) replace tires by writing fat check

7) straighten bent frame by writing fat check



Dang! That checkbook is the most useful tool in the box!



The cool thing is, you don't run out of money until the book is gone! Since my checks only cost $20 a book, that's quite a deal.

Not the biggest for sure but I'd bet it would be wicked on the dyno as I'd bet it would spool really quick, now add a BB on top. One thing for sure I have learned is a cam is good for the dyno... . or I believe. Seems like the quicker you can get things burning the better off you are for number, why do the N2O guys do so well?
