Will gutted cat pass emissions?

I see the BD- X Power has now added timing for the 04. 5-05's and claims 340 foot lbs. with no pressure. The box looks like a VA and I know they were going to work on timing but nothing yet on VA's site.

They probably haven't updated their site yet. I got the info in a news letter from them as I am a subscriber.

The new Ram X-Power Plus module offers new technology in performance for the Common Rail fuel systems on the 2004. 5 and 2005 Dodge 5. 9L 600 series Diesels.

The X-Power Plus achieves performance gains by altering the injection pulse duration and now comes available with injection timing control! The X-Power does not increasing the rail pressure like some other modules which has been know to cause fuel leakage and damage.

With the added control of injection timing, the X-Power Plus allows the user to more aggressively reduce visible smoke and dramatically lower Exhaust Gas Temperatures as well as improving power output by 25% over the original Ram X-Power plus increasing fuel mileage.

The Ram X-Power Plus produces power increases of up to 180 hp and 340 Lbs. ft. of torque! The X-Power modules also makes for an easy installation by connecting to the factory injector plugs and MAP sensor, and, includes the Power Dial with a color coded decal that gives progressive performance control.

I got the letter in my email too.

Main question is why not one for the 03-04? And it is for sure a re-badged VA?

Didn't know about the TST case being the same.

I wonder how they are able to do timing as no mention was made of connecting to the crank & cam sensors. Maybe they are just changing the curve as a result of remaping the boost. Not sure if you can get as much advance that way vs the TST way.

On another note I read a post by Quad over on DTR that they are working on a timing box and will most likely use the cam and crank sensor connections.

Makes ya wonder what EDGE is going to do... (without the data port)

I put a Juice on my friends 03 and the box says it is for 03-04's, it had-
  • Data Port
  • MAP
  • Injector
  • Pressure

connections. From what I understand Edge added some pressure on those as a fix to some sort of issue. I don't know what connections are made for the 05 Juice, did they drop the data port on that one or are you referring to the 06's that dont have it anymore?

Correct, 2006 - I could not find a data port to save my life (I was going hook up a QUAD box just to see if it worked)

I've never been able to understand how edge does timing on my 05. Do either of you understand how it is done without using the cam and crank senser. seems to me tst would be doing more timing. now if bd is doing timing they must do something similar to the edge. I understand how quad and ts is doing it. I hate not understanding how something supposedly works.

Not me, but thats because the companies don't divulge that info. My speculation is that since they alter the boost signal the result is a change in the timing curve by the ECM so they can say they do timing. . thats just me thinking out loud and I am all ears to learn otherwise.

I agree.

Me too and mostly because with my truck being my personal property and expensive as it is I like to know, plus it makes adding other mods not so much a guessing game.

I confirmed with VA that BD has in the past bought their product and re badged it but they are not doing that anymore. Its possible BD is getting their cases from TST.
