Just finished installing BD's new 4X4 low lockout on my 2001 3500. Appears to be high quality parts. The instructions were good and installation went very good #ad
. The unit seems to functon very well= no 4X4 in 4X4 low if the switch is on. It will be very nice to be able to back up the trailer on hard surfaces in 4X low without the front axle engaged. I carry a truck camper 100% of the time so the weight really ties the tires to the ground. I will post more information as I get miles on the unit.

Would you mind giving more info on the BD kit? What comes with it, how it works, etc? Is it only a solenoid that prevents vacuum from reaching the front hubs? This is a future upgrade for my truck and I'm looking for possibilities.

I have been looking at the different 2WD Lo kits that are available. The BD looks OK. Anybody have any experience with the cable activated kit from Willards, 4x4 Posi-Lok. There was a small press release on page 128 of the #30 TDR.

I also have the BD 2-low kit. I have had it for about 6 months. It works well. As you suspect, all it is, is a solenoid that prevents vacuum from reaching the axle disconnect mechanism. It comes with an industrial soleniod valve (same one they use for the exhaust brake), a nice mounting bracket, a lighted switch with a nice legend plate, and wiring. I mounted mine in the plastic housing next to the shifter.

I ordered mine last week. Just exactly what I need to manuever my 15K 5th wheel up steep grade.

I think the questions have been answered. But here goes. There is a selonoid that keeps vacuum from engageing the front axle. It is not just a simple cut off switch . Aparently the early simpler vacuum routing did not always release the front drive. Quality of the components seem excellent. Should be VERY nice for that blind side, up hill, long trailer backup. I would hope the price will be covered by the convience alone to say nothing about the saveings in clutch wear.
