BDS 6" Long Arm Mega Cab Lift First Impression

I just finished on the 6" BDS Long arm system with blocks in the rear and standard shocks. My firs impression of the lift is stiff and bouncy. I put a 6" Revtek on my last Mega and that rode much nicer as far as not being bouncy and stiff. Everything else was equal as far as same exact tire and size, same wheel and offset. Has anyone had any experience with either of these lifts that they can offer? I am going to check and see what the tire pressure is this morning to make sure they aren't overinflated but my last truck was at about 45PSI.

Post some pics of your rig, it looks killer on paper. I have been interested in this lift as well. My experience with lifted trucks is the shocks make the biggest difference.

I have the Tuff Country 6" kit(spacer) with Fabtech dual shock hoops with PRO9000's on for now. I am wanting a 8" long arm kit if any one ever comes out with one. The Rock Krawler kit does not appeal to me, and the 10" Full Throttle kit is to big for all the toys I pull. Will have to wait for a report on the BDS. Zmock I run 38 PSI in my Toyo's seem to be just right for towing and ride with the stiff 37's

Wow, 38 PSI. That must make a world of difference. No problems with wear or long life?? Yeah, mine are running around 50 PSI.

Do you guys with 6" lifts have any problems with driveline vibration? Do the kits clock the transfer case or drop the center driveshaft support?

I don't tow anything to heavy, less than 10,000LBS for my stuff. The tires wear seems good if you rotate often. My 7000 LBS boat does not squat the tires at all at 38#'s

If you have a Mega Cab or long box extra cab truck you will get rear drive line wrap/vibration due to the two piece drive line. You just have to shim the carrier bearing down a inch or so and most of it goes away. The front is fine if you stay with 6" or less. 6" or more you should invest in a high angle drive line.

Don Thuren (thurenfabrication) is working on a radius long arm kit. Not sure on the top size of lift, but it should be out soon. I know its out on a few "test mules" right now so it shouldnt be long before he has the system out. He just had his first kid last week, so he might be hard to get a hold of for a few days.





BTW, nice looking Megas, if I had the money I would have one in my driveway with a 5-6" and 35-37's. Some day soon I hope, but time will tell.



On the BDS kit, is it a full replacement coil? It might take some time for the coil to "soften" up a little. Did you find out what the tires were at?

Fozzy- Im lookin for a long travel kit also. I have the pro-comp 5in. But its not what i want i only put it on because i bent my front end in half in mohave ca. so i put something cheap for now. Like punkineater said rock krawler has one and Ive been lookin at it for a while now. Fab-tech is also supposed to come out with one like they have for the new fords. So ive been waiting for that to see whatit like. Im running out of patience, I already have a blown mx-6 in the rear. As for the drive shaft vibration I had it in the front, but found out if its not put back in the right location it will vibrate, In the rear your right it needs to be dropped at the carrier bearing, mine is dropped 1inch.

i have the 3 inch kit on my mega with shock upgrade to better bds shocks. i rides so bad that i had to take the rear shocks off and put the oems back on in the rear. can not do that in the front , they are too short. i do not know what to do. bds says, we do not have any satisfaction guarantee, they think i would have been happier with the standard 5100 $50. 00 shocks the kit comes with.

Kurt, get some custom valved shocks. there are plenty of guys out there, but the only guy I have delt with directly would be Don @ Thurenfabrication . he builds custom shocks, and have heard they are night and day difference over anything out there. Plus, they can be built for you, your driving style and the use of the vehicle. They are one of the items on my wish list as of right now!

That is why I went with the Rancho's on my truck. The Fabtech Dirt Logics had to much dampening in them. They look way cooler than the Ranchos but the little clicker on them does it's job. I soften up the back when empty and stiffen them up when I pull my boat. Rancho is working on a digital in cab controller for them that look good if it ever comes out. I have had them on for over a year and no rust, leaks or complaints. More than I can say for the other brands I have had.

figured I'd offer a couple cents to the question. .

I have a 6" Superlift and opted for the dual front and rear shocks. The truck rides great! I thought as heavy as these trucks are, it could use the extra support. It's stiffer than the stock obviously but, it's exactly what was needed. IMO, it rides like it's suppose to now. Very comfortable and yet tough.

I did have a lot of rear wheel hop but, that was bad with the stock suspension too. I added some ladder bars since then and the ride couldn't be better.

IMO again, with the Bilsteins and coils set up for a 1ton diesel, the Superlift kit is pretty nice. The trailing arms have been designed to swivel for flex and have grease fittings, the kit comes with drop blocks for the carrier bearing and drop bracket for the track bar, it also has a new pitman arm and endlinks.

Just wanted to post some updates. I aired the tires down to 38 PSI and didn't notice any difference in ride. It still rides way stiffer and bumpier than the same truck with a Revtek lift and 45PSI. I thought this BDS Long Arm system was supposed to be the cat's meow??!!! Not that impressed yet. I still think something may be wrong with something. I haven't given up hope completely, yet!! It almost feels like you are riding on bias ply tires and a constant quick hopping in the truck unless you are on a completely smooth road. You get on a road with any potholes or just rough asphalt or concret and it rough city. I am only comparing it to 2 of the same trucks with a Revtek. Anyone else run a BDS and happy with it? I also don't like the front end an inch lower than rear. I might have to take some spacers out of the rear leafs to level it out better. Maybe that is the problem??

I'd really like to see some pics of your truck. Not only the lift, but the "custom full glass rooftop"!!



There are few guys on here that have removed the small factory spacer to level out their trucks like you describe with no ill effects. If your kit retained this spacer, I would think that might solve your nose down problem. It won't change the ride though. My guess is that it's your shocks. Do you have dual shocks? If they are not valved to be in a dual setup, they could be causing your bad ride. I recently heard of Lorenz helping out a guy with a Kelderman setup put Sway-a-Way shocks on his truck. It took some measuring and work with the manufacturer, but he got it done. The result was a completely different riding truck that the owner was very happy with.

Don't know if this will be any help, but I e-mailed this gentleman that builds long arm kits back at the first of the year and this is what he replied to me:













We can make arms special length for any size lift.

The kit is bolt on with crush sleeve style brackets or weld on which is what we prefer!

They'll work on any Dodge truck thru those years and also 1 ton and Mega cabs

Kit price is 920. 36 for all harware well have 20 more kits by end of January. We are filling orders now for those kits.
