I have a Gateway lap top computer that the hard drive went bad on it, Gateway is replacing the hard however the hard drive is now 4 days over due.

That is not really my beef with Gateway, it is the fact that Gateway refuses to sell me a replacement keyboard for this lap top.

One of the arrow keys came off due to my own fault. I want to order a new keyboard to fix this problem as one of the metal retainers is broken that holds the key face onto the keyboard.

Well I go on the Gateway web site I even find the part number for the keyboard I need, so I call Gateway and try to order the keyboard. I am wanting to pay for the darn thing.

Well the Gateway employee tells me that Gateway does not sell that item to the public, to bad so sad.

I am so mad with Gateway right now that if I had their CEO in front of me I would beat him half to death with his piece of crap lap top.

The sad part is the lap top has not been half bad, other then the hard drive failing without any warning and me losing all my data (yes I do have back ups but I still lost some new data that has to be redone) and keyboard key problem that is of my own doing.

I just don't understand why they refuse to sell a customer a part that they need, it is not like the keyboard is a hard to change item, hell you have to remove it just to add memory to the lap top.

I just wanted to forever warn everyone who is looking to buy a computer to watch out if you are buying a Gateway, as they are refusing to take care of me, and I even have 560 some odd days of extended warranty left, they don't even have you send them the product if something fails they mail you the parts and you have to fix it on your own any way.

OK my rant is off consider your self warned on Gateway products and their non support. #@$%!

The college program I am going to be attending this fall requires the purchase of a specific model laptop and of course it has to be a gateway. They have a complete order sheet detailing every single part of it. Hell of a sweet deal for gateway, I figure based roughly on hand calculation that means at least 400 of those computers just for USD's classes, I know that the similar program at SDSU is the exact same way. Talk about a major scam. $1800 a piece. What really sucks is I already own a very nice computer and have no reason to go spending that kind of money on a new one other than they will not let you continue in the class if you don't have it. System requirements wise I have everything already, it just doesn't happen to be made by Gateway.

Well Gateway is going to replace my keyboard, but only under warranty, I cannot buy a keyboard.

Fine with me, its their money, but what about all those people who are no longer in warranty, How do they replace a keyboard if Gateway refuses to sell one?

I am willing to pay for the freaking keyboard, but Gateway says no way will they sell me one but hey you still have over 500 days of your extended warranty left, we will just send you a free one.

And American companies wonder why they have so many problems being competitive, it is no wonder, I am the cause of the broken key, I just wanted to buy a replacement keyboard, but hey its their dime.

I just wonder what happens when the warranty runs out and I have a problem that can be fixed with a simple repair, but they refuse to sell the part.

... I just wonder what happens when the warranty runs out and I have a problem that can be fixed with a simple repair, but they refuse to sell the part... .

They will "offer" you the "opportunity" to extend your warrantee for $$$$$. How "cool" is that? (As long as it is to THEIR advantage, then suddenly "oh, I'm sorry, we don't offer that extended warrantee program any longer", meaning we want you to buy another laptop. They are NOT in the business of fixing laptops, they are in the business of SELLING laptops.

I am NOT a laptop fan of anyone's laptops. Unless you absolutely have to have truely portable computing. MUCH rather have a small form factor "real" computer, and an LCD panel. Actually, I am going to install a small form factor computer and LCD screen in our truck for GPS navigation.

Don't feel bad FedEx stinks to

I am having a problem with FedEx, now i know this isn't computer related but when the package has the correct shipping address you expect it to show up at your door not someone else's, correct. well i wouldn't be so PO'd except this is the second package that has mysteriously been dropped off at the wrong residence, im on these pple like white on rice and im not letting up until i feel that their delivery personel know where i live, its not like they haven't delivered here in years past, what gives!!!! #@$%!

What gets me the first package of some time back was taken to the local post office by the person that the package was dropped off at(their house) and said person was nice enough to pay postage for post office to deliver it. Now its package number 2 the same way except it hasn't showed up as of yet.

IM ******, MAD, IRRATE!!!!!!!!!!! YOU NAME IT, I HAVE HAD IT WITH THEM...

Now i feel some better.

I know what you mean, the hard drive Gateway has sent out was due June 11, 2005, it going into June 16, 2005 and that makes it 5 days late, the tracking number provided by Gateway does not work on the FedEx web site for some reason.

I just sent a member of this forum a DiPricol fuel pressure gauge by UPS, I paid for 2nd Day Air, I will be damed if UPS sent it by truck instead.

Now both 2nd Day Air and Ground were both scheduled to arrive on the same date which was five days later due to the weekend I sent the gauge on a Friday morning about 9:30 AM, and it did not arrive until Tuesday around 12:30 PM.

I wanted it 2nd Day Air as I felt it might get a little better treatment and not be used as a soccer ball. It was also 10 dollars more to send it by Air, so that is what miffs me is that I paid a higher price for a service that was not provided. Me thinks I will be making a trip to the UPS place with my receipt to try and get the extra ten dollars back. I will have to print out the tracking to prove my case, but I bet they will still claim it was not trucked from Fl to PA but was flown, that is when I will ask them if it was by crop duster!

I know how you feel john,

I drove a route for 4yrs and didn't once lose any liability(i was a armored car driver) if i had it would have meant my job right on the spot, these pple are supposed to have all of this high tech gadgets to help and aid them in finding addresses and to track packages, in my own opinion is nothing but pure ignorance topped off with lack of common sense.

Our local stock market talk radio guy says do not buy Gateway. Dell is eating their lunch.

On a side note, buy a IBM clone, not a Gateway, Dell etc. They all use proprietary parts, which cost more. Price a power supply for a Dell etc, then price one for a clone.

This is mainly for PCs. I think laptops are a world of their own
