How hard is it to change out the bearing behind the fan, on the bracket that holds the fan itself?, It's on a 2005 5. 9,The guy that bought my trailer was coming to get it today when he heard a whining noise ,took it to the shop and the mechanic told him it was the bearing in the fan, said it would be 400. 00 to replace it, Was wondering if anybody has tackled this job?, Thanks, Monte

It's not too bad really, just a couple of hours and a scraped knuckle or two. If you get the bearing through Cummins it's about $150 but there are cheaper sources.
It really unusual for it to go bad. I thought mine was bad and replaced it but it turned out to be the stupid Fluid Dampener -but thats another story.

Its really pretty easy if you care to do it. Remove the fan and shroud, remove the belt, 4 bolts and the fan support comes off.

Getting the new bearing in and out is kinda tricky but not that hard if you have a shop.

Ok, Thanks, BTW the 400. 00 was quoted as just labor, he said 300. for the bearing, I'll tell him to bring it over to my shop and help do it, appreciate it,Monte

Update he took it back to the dealer, and they have decided to fix it,he had just bought it from them the day before,i told him they should be responsible for it,anyway he wound up with good news on that deal, thanks for the input,Monte
