I have a W250 with a Dana 70 rear and heard a growling noise from my rear when turning to the right with a trailer(1st time I have pulled a trailer with the ole truck since buying it) so I decided to put bearings/seals and brakes, but I haven't found a socket big enough to fit the outer bearing retainer nut, can anybody tell me what size socket I need? And is it a octagon nut? it doesn't look like a regular nut, the edges are rounded, HELP

It should be a 2 9/16 rounded edge socket. Mine is in a set but I think someone here said NAPA carried it also.

I bought the socket at Parts America or Autozone. It's not a regular socket.

It's made for the rounded corners of the nut.

I don't know if your nut size would be the same as mine though.

I'm sure someone else will tell you the correct size for a first gen. and a 70.

On Edit: He's fast with the keyboard !

thanks guys my outer wheel bearings were really pitted, inners not bad, both seals leaking. My bearing nut was rounded but I could not get a 2 1/2 to fit that was rounded, 2 9/16 was to big, 2 1/2 square on the flats took it off.

I replaced mine with the 3 piece nut that goes in the front Dana 60. So now I carry one socket with me and it will work on both the front and rear.

I have a Dana 80 from an 03 c/c that has the same bearings inner and outer as well as the same nut as the Dana 70s. Also a 97 Dually that has the same nuts and bearings. So I think they are all the same.
