well tonight me with my '91 and my buddy with his '96 powerstroke were crusin thru town and saw this black '03 or '04 chevy dually w/duramax blowin smoke. . but nothin like mine can blow:-laf and so me and my buddy waited till we found him at walmart cuz we both wanted to race this thing to see what it can do so all of us leave walmart and get on the main road out of town and my buddy wants me to get up there next to the dmax at the light cuz i can stomp his powerstroke :D and when the light went green that dmax left me:{ and when we did it agin i got him more on top end but never could off the line and both of us left the powerstroke way back there... i dont know what all this guy has on his dmax but that thing is fast  and i thought mine was fast runnin a 14. 5 in the 1/4 mile and at 6200lbs w/flatbed... how much will a turbo off a '04 1/2 cummins help off the line and on top end? and i been thinkin bout puttin a reg. pickup bed back on and puttin a 5" stack out the hood insted of havin to get a new downpipe for that turbo..... so yall let me know what yall think and how i can put that dmax in its place:D

Michael,

One fairly inexpensive mod would be to change your 'lagmaster' 21cm housing to a 16 or smaller depending on your fueling intentions. That would help your 'off the line' launch. A turbo upgrade would help you too. Then again, it all boils down to how much $ you're willing to part with. A tighter converter would wake things up. ;)

Aloha,

Matt

I don't even bother with the duramax on the flat in a straight line. IMO our engines were made to work and pull. Now when I happen to catch a dmax on a hill... game on! On long drawn out hills I have no problem even with my stock truck. I don't know what it is but man those things can move out on the flat. In answer to your question I think you will have to get your stock transmission beefed up before you throw any cash at the go fast parts. It's all in good fun anyway!

killed my first dmax on the freeway today and my transmission is fryed(I have no lockup clutch at all now). He was piped but i didnt see any smoke. oh wait thats cuz he was behind me:-laf

back when i first started my upgrades i wanted a 16 housing for my turbo but i never got it and i think i have way too much fuel for it now cuz i can push 36psi out of the 21cm and 1500+egts unless i get the 60mm wheel upgrade and backplate from htt and the 16cm housing if i dont get the newer turbo behore long... i do need a tighter converter i know they dont go by % anymore but if they did i think i want one bout like a 91% converter... and how much an i lookin at for a tighter converter?

I've often wanted to run my exhaust throught the hood too, but I think in pretty much every state that would be illegal. I think that would get enough attention from the local police too, be hard to go unnoticed. Its a shame too, think thats the best looking spot... .

With the lack of a proper Lift pump (stock intake replacement here, near 0psi WOT). And the fact the my drive shaft u-joints were 1 week away from starting their self destruction sequence 500-530hp with stock turbo + trans/clutch. I'm sure I could squeak over 500hp with them 2 small factors changed.

I can run and hang with low 13 second cars.

Me too... ... ... ... ... but don't bet on the 60mm fat wheel with machined back plate 16 cm housing helping you any. I still see 1500° real easy. The first gen is air challenged even w/4" exhaust and intake mods. You (we) need much more than a HX Hybrid.

If you wanna do it, do it right and replace the head with a flow/port. Add head studs and a tighter converter. Then bolt on the ATS three piece w/a really big turbo and gated housing like a 16cm.

You still won't have a drag strip truck, but you'll blow most trucks out of the water when your turbo lights-off at 10/15 psi.

Small turbos are really good from light to light but I don't drive light to light/ hense the 18. 5 or 21 cm housings on my trucks.

my brother in law just switched over to a powerstoke intercooler in his first gen. Night and day diff. hes also running a phatshaft and more fuel than i have. But the cooler seamed to make all the differnce. Took him about a day and quite a bit of custom(massaging) to make it fit but sure workes good
