I have no doubt...

... that a Duramax is an ok truck. I don't think there was really that much "bashing" going on here.

What is a fact, however, is that the Duramax only hits its max torque at higher RPM (2000-2200 RPM, if my memory serves me right), v. the CTD hitting its at around 1400-1600RPM.

In addition, if you look at the torque curve of the CTD, it stays pretty constant across the RPM range, while the Duramax (and Powerstroke as well) slowly increase until they hit their max, and then start decreasing again. That might not be a huge advantage smoking people at the red light, but it sure comes in handy pulling 11,500# from a dead stop up a hill...

Trust me, I do feel after driving both that a cummins does have a much flatter power curve than a duramax. I just didn't see the big deal about the d-max having no power to pull. I thought it was great truck and hope I like my 600 just as much that I pick up in an hour. I also hopes Dodge stands behind their warranty better than Chevy did. That would be the other reason I got rid of my duramax. I was having clutch problems at 52K miles. So is the dually that our rock buggy team uses and it has only about 30K miles. GM basically told me to **** off even though it was the flywheel coming apart. They asked the owner of the team truck how the last guy fixed it that he heard of having the same problem. He replied to the shop foreman at the second dealership to look at his, "He should be taking delivery of his new Dodge this week. " There was no response from the shop foreman.

By the way, since we just got back from Moab with 10K pounds behind the team truck(D-Max), we crossed Vail Pass and Eisenhower(SP?) Pass at 65mph. Not to shabby.

If you go back and read my comparison, I didn't bash the Chevy at all.

And if all you want is stoplight to stoplight dragracing stock trucks, you better buy that Chevy/Allison because I can't shift anywhere near, not close at all, as fast as it can. Dad's truck will absolutely blow the doors off of my 6 speed!

They each have their good and bad points. The Chevy fits what my dad wanted, and the Dodge fit what I wanted. I also have this big rattle he doesn't... $12,000 banging around that I had left over... :D

In all cases, it's important to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Auto trannies are faster off the line than 6-speeds.

I do not know if I believe that or not. I raced an 04 auto swb 2500 the other day. dead stop I pulled him almost 2 trucks off the line. he thought I had him easy, but every time I shifted he would pull up a lil'. then I missed 5th and me got by me. but off the line 1800 rpm's side stepped the clutch, auto does not beat it. he was holding 2000 when he let it go. by the way both trucks identical ,same mods to a tee.

Sounds like it's time for a throw-down!

Thats the problem with these types of threads, can a '01 DM outpull an '01 ETC auto? I have no doubt.

The problem with these threads is that there is no real field-testing. Why not throw-down on both the Duramax and the Powerstroke and find a big, deserted area of the country and talk some brewery into providing the beer. Dodge, Fords and Chevys all in one spot-- chipped or unchipped, lifted or unlifted, auto or stick -- and just battle it out. Make it a three-day bende-er, event with both long, straight roads and challenging hills. Loser pays the brewery for the beer. I guess we'll need identical trailers and loads so we could get a trailer manufacturer to supply several trailers and an equipment company to bring several backhoes (to bury the Fords).

But lets pull some steep grades too.

In that case, by the power vested in my by the local Dodge dealership I do hereby offer the State of Texas as the Armageddon battlefield for the mother of all truck battles.

The steep hills might be a problem but that just means we take a well-deserved trip to New Orleans and take over their bridge system. Some of those bridges have to be close to a 90* angle. :D

Could not have said it better myself except my Dad sent me in the right direction. :D

Mine does what I want it to do every day and every time I pull a load. I saved $10K over a Chevy. The only thing that made me buy a Dodge was PRICE, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I bought mine to pull not race. The GTO in the garage will start to get jealous if I don't let her out once in a while;)

Bring em' to Colorado for the hill test.

What is funny is that I get GM dicount and still saved $10K over a Chevy on my new Dodge. By the way, got the new one home last night. Great truck so far. Too bad it took me all night to install the brake and I am still not done. More work ahead tonight:rolleyes:
