Harvey Barlow wins TDR Common-Sense Tip Contest!

You can become a TDR writer too!

What, you don't recall seeing the contest write-up?

Well, there was not one. Here is the story. I was trolling the 6. 7-liter Engine and Transmission Discussion Forum and discovered Harvey Barlow's, “Simple Do-It-Yourself Instructions for Changing an ISB 6. 7 Fuel Filter. ” https://www.turbodieselregister.com...nstructions-changing-isb-6-7-fuel-filter.html

I thought out loud, “This is what the TDR is all about! Members helping members with the website and magazine as channels for the flow of information. ”

I captured Harvey's comments and added them to an article that I had already written for Issue 62 of the Turbo Diesel Register which will be out in November, 2008. The preview of this article is available here: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/tdrarticles/tdrarticle62_fuelfilterchange.pdf

We sent Harvey $100 today and decided to officially announce a “TDR Common-Sense Tip Contest. ”

So here goes:

· Using Harvey Barlow's tip as a guide (his tip pointed out that since the 6. 7-liter engine's introduction, the audience has overlooked the obvious), submit your Common-Sense Tip in the new “Common Sense Tips from TDR Members” forum (TDR Common Sense Tips from TDR Members - TDR Roundtable).

· The contest will run through November 30, 2008.

· The top ten tips will be selected and published in the Turbo Diesel Register.

· The best tip, as judged by the TDR staff, will be recognized in the TDR Magazine and will be sent a $100 check. The second the third place tips will also be recognized in the TDR magazine and will be sent a $50 gift certificate to Geno's Garage. The other submissions will be given honorable mention status and will be published in the Turbo Diesel Register magazine.

· Get busy!

You web guys and gals share LOTS of information that does not make it to print. The writers and I try to capture data, and it is important to do so. We've got some good stuff on our website, but we need to get it into the magazine for all TDR members to benefit from. Participate in the “Become a TDR Writer” contest, and let's get the information to the masses!

Fuel Saving Idea

Want to increase your performance and fuel mileage? These days when the price of fuel costs more than a gallon of milk, adding Centane additive to your engine will raise the Centane level to

6. You should see about a 1 to 2 mpg increase in mileage, I did after the first couple of tank fulls. You will also notice a little more punch at the pedal!

Thanks, GIT-R-DONE for the reference to the power steering thread.

However, it looks like Texas Diesel did the majority of the write-up and should receive credit for the tip (if it is chosen).

In its current 42 some-odd post form it is not in the right context for publication(too many unnecessary questions and comments). So, let's get Texas Diesel to clean it up, send it in and compete for the prizes and/or recognition.

Thanks in advance, Robert Patton

PS you'll see that Harvey Barlow's post was edited and pictures added when the Issue 62 arrives in your mailbox. Yes, it needed a little tweaking, but it was a great springboard to this contest and greater member participation.

I have an AFE Force Intake system on my 2003 Dodge. I purchased the filter sock to go along with the filter. I noticed that by keeping the sock cleaned on a regular bases, I don't have to clean the filter as often. I wash the filter by hand with mild soap and warm water. I often do this right after being on dusty roads or after we have dust storm, common in Arizona. It must be working, because my Silicon levels are below average.

That is another thing I do once a year, I get an Oil Sample from my engine. I think that this gives you a good point of reference as to what is going on with your engine. At a cost of $25. 00, I feel this is a worth while investment.

Prizes Being Shipped 01/21/09

I apologize for the delay in posting the winners of this contest, but we had to wait until Issue 63 of the Turbo Diesel Register was complete and submitted for print.

A check for $100 will be mailed to rbattelle for his material on How to Replace a Rocker Box Gasket. Thank you!

A Geno's Garage Gift Certificate for $50 will be mailed to sag2. Not only is he a consistent contributor to the website, but we used much of his material in this Issue's 6. 7 Liter Column.

A Geno's Garage Gift Certificate for $50 will be mailed to Bob4x4. Again, he is a consistent contributor, and his material was used in this issue's 6. 7 Liter Column.

We salute you!

Got mine on Friday the 24th. I am honored to have won for that thread, and I hope the information is helpful to others.

I can't adequately express my appreciation.
