bed protector for tool box

Just got my 2500 Laramie a couple weeks ago and finally got the bed liner installed so now I am ready to put in my tool box. Had it sprayed as well so perfect match. I think I seen something in here about people damaging thier bed rails w/ tool boxes. Something about a bed protector from DC. Is this for real?????

Yeah, I've seen the posts, too. I haven't had a lick of problems with my tool box. I have about 150#'s in it at any given time. I've had it in and out a few times and I haven't noticed any problems. I've had my tool box for about 1 1/2 years and over 35,000 miles.



I don't think you'll have any problems.

I don't know if anyone has actually damaged their trucks but DC does say to install this kit if you are going to mount a toolbox. I have the kit but I have not installed it yet. I just ordered a tool box last week.



The kit consists of 2 predrilled steel L brackets that are riveted to the bed so they tie together and reinforce the front and side bedrails. There are 4 welded J bolts with the hook portion being wider than typical. Also included in the kit are 2 dense rubber pads, about 3/8" thick and contoured, that are supposed to sit on the rails under the toolbox. I presume the pads are supposed to absorb some of the shock of tools bouncing around in the toolbox.

Okay then I can possibly add this at any time. I went ahead and mounted the box with some brackets I fabricated from 1" aluminum angle. I set it up so I could use wing nuts to get the box out quickly and also not have to drill into the top of the bedrail. It came out pretty cool. Truckwerx makes one and charges $30 for it. Only cost me $15 in hardware plus the satisfaction of making my own. Thanks for your input. How much does the reinforcement kit cost?
