I'm shopping for a tool box that mounts on the bed rails in the forward box area. I also want to install an Access tonneau cover behind it. I've looked at many brands without anything catching my eye. I stopped at a local place on Saturday and he showed me a Trunk trunk. I liked the idea of a sliding versus a hinged top.

Does anyone have a strong opinion on their bed rail mounted tool box they want to share for the others?

thanks

-John

Thanks for the info

I already decided to go with a single flip lid style. The slider is great in the open, but not so good in close quarters, same as quad doors. The lock on the Truck Trunk is below the tonneau cover, too.

BigDaddy;

I tried some of the <anchors> in your signature and very few work.

JohnE,

Before you purchase the Access cover check out the Truxedo cover in my sig (I know it's kind of a cheesy name). I researched both covers, spoke with reps at both companies, and also had the local truck accessory shop owner (who is also a friend of mine) do some research for me. After comparing the two covers I found the Truxedo to be a better cover.

What Access cover are you looking at, they make 2 versions if I remember correctly. Sur-Co, the company that makes the Truxedo also has a lesser model as well. It sells for about $100 less than the Truxedo.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks for the heads up!

Ryan;

I'm looking at the Access® cover not the LiteRider. There is a dealer here in town that is very competitive in price and here in town, which means a lot to me.

FWIW One of the local accessory shops told me that Agri-Cover came out with LiteRider to market a product comparable to Truxedo® in quality and price.

John,

That's odd???

Just a few more thoughts for you.

-The Truxedo has a lifetime warranty, Access is 3 year.

-Truxedo uses the original Velcro (Registered) not an imitation hook and loop. You may feel this is insignificant, but it has been my experience that the original Velcro is better than imitations. JMHO.

-The Truxedo has automatic tensioners to keep the cover tight regardless of temperature, Access has a manual tensioner (FWIW - The lesser Truck-Hyde has a manual tensioner, Shur-Co's lower end cover is called the Truck Hyde: http://www.truckhyde.com/

I was told the Truck-Hyde cover is more comparable to the Access cover, and given what I know now I would say that is a fair assumption.

List for an 8ft Truxedo is $420 and for a Truck-Hyde is $320. I paid considerably less for my Truxedo.

Just some food for thought.

Access Cover is Awesome

I finally broke down and bought an Access Cover, not the Lite. I gotta say this is the nicest cover I've ever seen. It's great!

If the Truxedo is comparable, you'll be happy with either one.

I know what you mean about breaking down and buying one ;)

These type of covers are a lot more expensive than your everyday vinyl cover

-Ryan

I have to agree

Ryan,

You're right, they aren't cheap. But when I think that I spent $200 for the factory cover on my last truck, and replaced the fabric after two years... .

I certainly hope this cover lasts a lot longer... . and you can bet I'll feed that vinyl frequently.

I looked at a lot of covers, both online and on other folks trucks going down the road. There's a lot of snaps out there that aren't doing their job any more and corners that don't stay down.

I think it's money well spent, but only time will tell.

Matt

Thanks for the heads up.

JohnE,

I have updated the links in my signature and added a few more. Bombing progresses and URL's change:D

BTW, they make this in polished aluminum also.
