I am in the process of installing a Bed Rug in my 2016 2500 6' 4" bed. Everything seems straightforward except the tailgate.

The tailgate portion could be fastened down with the velcro in three places: on the plastic cap (which I understand is not recommended), on a 1/4" rib which comes next, or on a 3/4" flat surface which is 2" below the plastic cap.

The flat surface seems best for adhesion but I am worried about it being so low from the top of the tailgate. So, has anyone installed the Bed Rug and how did you solve this problem?

Have the same truck and bed rug didn't have any problems mounting mine put it as close to the top of the tailgate, just under the plastic cap on it. I also installed one of those ladders that flip down. Had to modify the ladder a little to clear the cable on the gate. but other than that the bedrug went in as shown in the vid;s. I have a bak flip new style cover on it so there isn't a problem with it coming loose. If you want to attach it to plastic the plastic needs to be cleaned with an plastic prep fluid, before putting the velcor down it promotes adhesion to the plastic.

Here is what mine looks like, I can take a better pic of were it is if it helps.

Thanks for the pics. In the second one I think I see the edge of the plastic cap, and then a space, and then the metal rib and then the Bed Rug starts. Is that right? If so that means that the edge of the Bed Rug is about 3/8" below the edge of the plastic cap and the velcro is mostly on the flat metal.

If I put the edge of the Rug touching the edge of the cap then there is a sort of valley where the velcro is supposed to stick and that doesn't seem right.

Thanks for your help.

again drivers side with the rug pulled up drivers side, velcro is on one side of the valley, and the rug will follow along the contour. Just make sure as you place the velcro along the ones on the underside of the rug it is nice and smooth.
here is something else that may give you fits as the bed tie downs don't unbolt on the 2016.

This is the drivers side one after the rug is in I slight over the hump of the tie downs a light shorter than they are wide, did it in all four locations. Started at the front ones.

I did the install today. The instructions said 30 minutes but I didn't come anywhere near that time.

One thing I wonder about is now their is some resistance to closing the tailgate. Did you all experience that? The reason I ask is that I put the tailgate cover about 1" below the edge of the plastic cap and that put the bottom of the tailgate cover a little lower and I wonder if that is causing the resistance to closing or is that normal.

Thank you all for the help.

It could be the problem, The hinge piece between the bed and tailgate feels to me to be thinner and more supple as it fits in between the space there there is the heavier sections of material on either side of it. I have thought of cutting that piece out as it does collect a lot of trash/debris from hauling bagged garden mulch, dirt etc. I haven't noticed any problems closing the gate. I have had it in place about 2 weeks and have opened/closed the gate countless times with no problems.
I spent more time wiping the bed down with rags and rubbing alcohol. per fit everything, And then did the install, I did it by myself so I figured that it would be at least twice as long as they say. Their video @ the SEMA show with those two guys that probably have done it a hundred times even took less time. With the editing of the repetitive work.
I never have done an install in the time they say in the instructions.
