2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission bed width discrepancies?

im trying to find a used cap for my '96 2500.....



when i measure - i get 100" length, but then 72. 5 inches width at the cab end of the bed, but 70" wide at the tailgate end...



i checked 5 times.



is there a taper?



and if so - does anyone know if the bed dimensions are identical on a '96 2500 and a '97 2500?



I searched the internet for a listing of the specs, but no luck.

The bed is tapered about 2. 5". Was on my 97 and is on my 08

All the 2nd gen(94-01) beds are the same dimensions. They all taper to the rear for aero.
