Bedliner?

Hello all, I just purchased a used over the rail bedliner and I was wondering if I can cut it to mak it fit under the rail because I have a topper on and I don't want to take it off if at all possible.

Sure, I don't see why not! But you may have to do something to make sure water doesn't just go flowing down between the bedside and the liner. But I see no reason why you couldn't do it.

Yeah, I would love to get one, but I couldn't pass up on a bedliner for $40.

You gotta think of it this way. The plastic slide in bedliner may only cost you $40. 00, but how much is it going to cost you to repair the rust damage it will cause in the the long run?

I think the best thing to do is go find trucks with each type and decide which you like best. Around here, most people will simply say they feel they made the right choice. Hard to get unbiased opinions.

Thanks Ryan. I've seen Onyx it looked tough. I'll look at Xtreme before deciding... but since I'm retired, price is important.

Depends where you live. On the coast or in salted road areas you might be better off with spray. I live in none of the above and after 12 years my truck bed had no problems with a drop in. Yes you can cut the edge off . You need a seal under it and I was told if need be you can put a couple screws in to help hold in place. My 06 4x4 had the leading edge cut with no problem. With my 94 the flang was left on the front and I never did get a good seal.

I had a slide in on another truck I had.

When I had the truck repainted, I took the liner out and was surprised at the rub spots on the bed.

When I got the truck back, it had Linex done.

Had my 05 about a week and had LineX sprayed over the rails.

I just had the Line-X sprayed into my bed - over the rail. It came out great and now I'm considering having them do the rocker panels. I have a short bed with nothing but tie down cleats and it was $450. 00. It really improved the appearance of the truck. On my last truck I had a drop in plastic liner. It was too slippery - everthing I put in it had to be retrieved from the front of the bed - and water pooled underneath the liner. The Line-X has an attractive textured finish and should provide a little more friction to keep things from wandering around the bed.



The two advantages that the drop in liner had was the corrugated shape of the floor and the ease of unloading bulk material. Flat items placed on the liner generally stayed dry since the water was confined to the channels in the liner and unloading soil, bark, yard debris could be done fairly easily with a rake since most dry items slid right out.



So... depending on what you haul the lack of friction on a drop in can be an advantage or a disadvantage. Hope this ramble helps you!!

I've had both and prefer the drop in bedliner. 1. because I get them free and 2. What I haul, I need it to slide good when I loading from rear. Also I'm not worried about paint scuffing or rust underneath because I never keep a truck for more than a couple years anyway.

Line-x is the only way to go. I've beat mine to death and it doesn't show any damage. In the long run it pays for itself. Some Used car guides even show extra value for a spray-in liner.

I... I had a drop in plastic liner. It was too slippery - everthing I put in it had to be retrieved from the front of the bed...

I can beat that. I had to stop a little fast for a school bus (I thought the bus driver was going to let me go by before she turned the lights on but she turned them on at the last second) and my load slid to the front. Since I didn't want to have to climb into the front of the box (topper installed) with good clothes on, I took off a little fast after the bus pulled away. The tailgate dropped and everything landed in the road! That drop in liner was replaced with Herculiner.



I'll get a spray in next time, I'll never do Herculiner again.



One thing to watch out for on the over the rail Dodge liners, they go straight down from the rail to the floor and have a large gap between the bed and the back of the liner. If you cut the top off, there won't be anything holding the liner against the box side and it will probably fall in.



I gave my last 2 away (1 over the rail and one under), keep an eye out, they show up. You could try putting an ad in the classifieds, someone might trade you for an under the rail liner. Used car lots are a good source too.
