Tire Size Question

Can't find a "Flare Saver" or Conical crush washer

I want to learn how to keep bees and dont know anything about it.

Any suggestions on where to buy equipment or equipment suggestions.

TIA

Also there is a publication called "The American Bee Journal" which you could probably find in most library periodical section. That magazine has a lot of ads and information that you could use tto get yourself off the ground.

Bees

The University of Georgia has an indepth book on Bee Keeping . . Saw it on RFD TV (direct TV) this weekend. The cost is 12/13 $$ and looks to be very complete.

Check the internet

My Dad did this when I was a kid. I was always impressed with the idea and hope to try it myself someday. From what I read of farming/agricultural articles, we need more people like you. Go for it!

For what it's worth: I had the opportunity to travel through Ukraine this summer and saw something that was pretty interesting. There were what looked like semi tractor trailer flatbeds out in fields, loaded up with probably fifty or so beehives. I've never seen that here in the states, but it seems like a neat idea. Take the hives to the crops, where it's needed, when they're ready.

Unfortunately we were on a bus and I didn't get a chance to snap a picture...

Beekeeping

I'm a beekeeper, this year I got this idea of going commercial. I'm always building equipment now.

A good online info source is the UGA site. Some of our speakers we have at club meetings are from UGA. I just joined a beekeepers club for the first time, its really nice to see how other people set up their hives in your area.

UGA Bee Program Site

Here is a few web links incase you have not found them yet:

Beemaster Forum

Beesource site, info, plans, forum.

Beesource forum or the exchange, better know as the Bulletin Board.

Beekeeping Links form Forest Floor.

For supplies, I usually use Kelly or Dadant. Dadant supplies the American bee journal: http://www.dadant.com/beekeeping/index.html

http://www.kelleybees.com/

Bee Culture is another mag that I like: http://bee. airoot.com/beeculture/index.htm

Thats very common if your around almonds, cucumbers, orchards like in Florida where the huge operations pollinate the orange trees. Some beekeepers around here will transport their hives to the mountains for sour wood season.

Bee keeping

I have done this twice in my life. I currently don't have bees mainly because I don't have the time. I got rid of them the last time because my wife was violently alergic to the sting. My grandfather had bees and he felt they contributed to his long live. (101)

A suggestion, don't go big at first. Three half size hives will net you all the honey you can ever use and will be managable. Bees have health problems and a significant problem is the throat mite. This will decimate a hive very quickly.

An observation, the meanest bees are the cleanest and most industrious. You will certainly get some stings. Some lines of bees are very docile and very easy to work. You will see moths and other problems with these.

It is a very interesting hobby. You can spend a fair amount of money but even at that is not a dreadfully expensive endevor.
