Advice for pouring cement

Last Thursday I got a phone call from my girl friend telling me the house had been broke into. It was done while we were away at work. After further inspection only guns were stolen :{ The robber kicked the front door in and only took my guns nothing else touched 2 cameras and $15 dollars was on the kitchen table along with tons of other things worth $. Like a real dumb ***** I didn't have the serial numbers on my guns wrote down, only a few of the serial # have I been able to retrieve from going back to the place were I got the guns.

For years I thought things like this only happen to the other guys like (YOU READING THIS POST) So please go write your #'s down and then buy a safe so this doesn't happen to you.

what really scares me the most is they didn't take all of them. Now they or he is armed with my guns and he knows were to find more :--) I have relocated all the guns that were left to a friends safe besides a 40 cal pistol witch has been staying pretty close by.

I haven't figured out what the insurance co. is going to do but I am sure I will be getting it again from them. :(

anyone out there able to suggest a safe, Because I don't plan on every being a easy target for a gun thief ever again. I found out yesterday that 4 other homes have been robbed in the last 2 weeks all with in 4 miles of my house. So far only thing stolen has been guns from the other home also.

If I havn't said it yet this bits ... ... . thanks for letting me vent

chris,

first of all, i feel for you. this is about as personally violated as one can get. i had an experience many years ago with a car break-in and it was very disconcerting. i would imagine what you are going through is 100 times worse.

my paranoid side wonders if they ONLY took guns, then maybe they knew specifically that YOU had guns. did you maybe tell someone about your guns that maybe in retrospect you shouldn't have. do you have any neighbors that you don't trust or anyone else that comes to mind. sorry for the paranoia, but unless every house on your street or in you community has guns, this probably wasn't a random robbery. otherwise they would have looked for jewelry, cameras, cash... . the usual.

as far as gun safes go, there are many brands and sizes. best bet is to do an internet search and see what you like and what is within your price range.

again, my sympathies. good luck in recovering from this ordeal.

Chris, hearing your story makes my blood boil. Last year somebody broke the window on my truck and I was  so I can't imagine how you feel. I hope your insurance does good by you and if you are an NRA member I think you have $1000 in coverage. I am with everybody that thinks it might be someone you know, that is typically the case in this situation.

I made a post on here a while back on safes when I purchased one used. I am really happy with it.

I am very sorry to hear about your lose.

The thieves would have a very hard time getting my 800 lbs browning up the basement stairs.

I had my truck broken into about three months ago and went anal on home/vehicle security.

I bought some cameras off ebay, and a couple of VCR's from walmart and a bunch of 8 hour tapes.

The VCR's are set to record from 10 PM to 6 AM, and the tape pops out. If nothing happened I just shove it back in to record while I am at work.

I would suggest getting a safe. I keep everything of value in there. (Guns, money, jewelry, credit cards, keepsakes, knives, cameras ANYTHING)

DO NOT buy from Sportsman Steel and safe!! I bought one from them comming up on four years now and I still don't have it. They kept changing stories on me saying it was ready to ship, it was being painted, no its being sanded for paint. Then they said they gave a refund, then when I wrote BBB which they are not a member of, they sent me a letter of all the upgrades they were going to give me. When I called them it was back to they had given me a refund.

I'm getting ready to take my trip to California just to take these joker's to court. Stay away from them... far away!

Safe is a very good idea but mount it to the floor very securely. Not to go into details of how it is done(it was done to us stole the whole damn ATM machine) be sure you can't slip anything bigger than a credit card under it, if that means cutting carpet then do it. Safes with little legs or uneven bottom surface should be avoided, mount with long big bolts (3/8 by 5-6 inch into concrete is what I use)that can only be accessed from inside the safe. IE don't mount on second floor where bolts can be loosened/cut/broken off from first floor (or basement)

That really bites. Hope you get all the #'s turned into the cops incase they commit a violent crime with them.

A guy down the road from me last year shot & killed an intruder that was after his guns. No charges were brought against him & several towns people offered to buy him dinner. Seems that the perp new he worked at the mill & when his pickup was not there the perp figured he was working. Little did he know the pickup was in the shop & he had been riding back & fourth to work with a coworker.

I have heard over and over how every one thinks it's someone I know or that knows me. A fella just hates to think that someone you know could come in your home and steal your stuff from you. I didn't go around bragging about having some cool guns but all most everyone I hang with has guns too. I thought it was standard for dads to give their sons a 22cal rifle at the age of 12. All my close friends (neighbors) that I grow up with have all had guns way before we could even by the ammo for them. Thats just the way I was raised. (out in the country) since then I have moved a little closer to town and live just out side of a town of 10,000 with what I thought was nothing but the good old boys. I don't know whats worse knowing someone has taken my guns or trying to figure out how to keep someone from every getting them again.

Even thought all of the guns can be replaced some of the memory with some can't. My dad gave me a Marlin 22 auto with a scope and case that I have had since christmas at the age of 11yr. 17yrs latter some loser steals it and has no clue just what a little . 22 is worth. To a pawn shop he will be lucky to get a $100 for it but it's worth a ton more to me then it is to anyone else.

I have done a little looking at safes and I can tell you that not all safes are created equal. This is one time were you get what you pay for.

so far http://www.championsafe.com/ has had the best setup that I have seen in real life.

the http://browning-gun-safe.com/ were nice but at 1/2 the cost they are also half the safe. I just don't like the way the door feels compaired to the Champion.

Thanks for your suport and I will keep you posted if anything turns up. One cool idea I found out from my boss was to place a sticker under the butt plate on the stock with your name and phone number. That way if it every come up again you can prove it's yours. For all the guns I didn't have numbers on it dosen't look like I will every be able to get them back because I can't prove that they were mine. :( How much worse can this get? If 1 good thing comes out of this so be it but so far I haven't found it yet :(

sorry

I retyped that message 4 times I almost gave up for some reason the computer wouldn't let me post the above post all at once. I had to keep making is smaller till it would post, what is up with that?

I can relate to that.

I was given a very old browning lever action 22 cal. that was stolen. Along with a long colt . 45 cal pistol.

Statics show that the victim usually knows the thief.

Just remember any safe is better then "under the mattress" or "in the closet"

Hay guys, I just found out that one town away 6 miles there has been 4 other homes were guns have been the only thing stolen over the last 2 weeks. that brings the toal to 8 home that I know of and I would be willing to guess that there is more that I don't know about.

Surly some how they will get what is comming to them.

Having your home broken into is very upsetting. In Sept of '02 our home was robbed while we were gone. I HATE thieves. He stole some of my wife's jewlery that can never be replaced because it came from her grandmother. He broke open my rifle case but didn't steal any guns. Maybe he thought they were too traceable or maybe it elevated the level of the crime. I don't know. It wasn't a safe, just a hard lockable case BTW. The freak even gave our dogs, treats, and cut the phone line. We now have an alarm system with cell phone backup to alert the monitoring facility.

I found out a couple of weeks ago, the guy got caught on an unrelated charge, but had some stolen stuff with him. The police found my scanner. I'm ready to testify if need be. These lowlifes could care a less what king of grief it causes you and your kids. I always wonder what would have happened if I had come home while he was here. I'm glad I didn't.

Good luck and he'll get his in the end.

If you have more than a few guns, owning a safe is just common sense. Sorry to hear about your break in. Would have loved to see you shoot the robbers in action :)

Sorry I forgot to post this earlier. See if you can get a list of the other people that were robbed and talk with them. Most likely the police do not have the time to figure out the connection between the different people other than the gun thing. If you can piece together a common connection a store you all used to buy ammo, where you bought or had weapons serviced, a internet site that you bought some weapons from, a gun range you all use, hunting lease, common store you purchased hunting license at, or the worst would be a common friend/crook.

I know it sucks to do the police work for them and gun theft should be a highly investigated crime but, my bet would be report taken put it in the file cabinet and a decetive never sees it, same as most other burglaries.

Speaking of thieves!!

My dad is in the process of moving and had two 10' x 20' storage units full of his house.

At the beginning of the month (april 1st) 31 units at the place were broken into. He lost everything of value in the two units he had.

The bad part is, he only FOUND OUT ABOUT YESTERDAY!!! BY A FREAKING LETTER!!!

Can you believe that. He even went in on the 5th of April to pay his bill!! Nothing was said to him!!

Does anyone think we can take the storage unit place to court and sue them for negligence??

O ya, forgot to add that about 40 checks have been written to the tune of $12,000. 00.

He caught the first one and filled out a fraud report at the bank, BUT the thieves/thief is still running around using his checks and its been a month.

If the storage place would of contacted him AT THE TIME OF THE THEFT, he might have been able to get a jump on what was going on!!

Times are getting tougher and the "IN" thing to do these days are to steal from the common man!!

I am getting worried about all this. What is this world coming too???
