Beeoww sound shifting into 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th

I have kept the fluid quite fresh in my NV5600. Did a fluid change 1,000 miles ago and yesterday started to get a Beeeeeoww sound when shifting into 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No sound in 1st or 6th. I am of course towing with the truck as always for my Auto Transport business. transmission has about 170,000 miles of hard use. Even though there is the pronounced Beeoww sound when going into the aforementioned gears . . . . . . . shifting is quite smooth. The noise seems to be coming through the stick. In fact at certain rpm while towing in 2nd I can hear a bit of feedback coming through the stick. No feedback sound in any of the other gears at any speed, just when shifting. Sound is a bit more pronounced when making shifts below 2,500 rpm and a bit less when above 2,500 rpm. 2nd gear is by far the loudest. I got lucky and secured a used transmission with only 30,000 miles on it from the local salvage yard for a good deal and I have it on hand at my place in Idaho, but for now i am in California wondering if i will make it back to Idaho before it fails. Have run with the noise for about 200 miles now with pleanty of stop and go driving. Since I am not at home, I am accessing TDR through a computer at the Macintosh store in Newport Beach. Going to go and have a bit of fun for now but would like to receive a bit of input from my TDR brothers and will check back here later. I did a brief search on noises and such in the NV5600 but didn't find really any post from others describing similar symptoms. Help me my brothers, need sage advice.

I get that sound a little in the winter when it's 0*F give or take. Not nearly as much as you describe though. Mine goes away as soon as it warms up.

Does double clutching change anything.

Yeah actually it does help a bit to double clutch a bit but it still does not go away.

I am not sure what Beeoww sounds like exactly but that sort of describes the sound that a synchronizer would make as it deteriorates and the mileage on the truck would leand to to think that as well. The fast that you say it kind of resonates through the shifter would be another confirmation of my thoughts.

That's why I was wondering what effect double-clutching had. Could be a lube issue. Are you sure you got it full? Too full?

What if the clutch isn't fully disengaging?

Disclaimer: I really don't know anything. I'm just throwing stuff out there to get info.

Still down here is So. Cal, Newport Beach to be exact. Had to stay around because my loads fell through. Have some others to pick up tomorrow and then hoping to nurse this thing home. Truck shifts as smooth as butter going into each gear, if it was the synchros wouldn't I be having trouble with the shifts?

I would think so. Maybe it's not the transmission... maybe it's a u-joint or something?

The sound happens during the shift, or after it's in gear?

Sound is made going into the above mentioned gears and is quiet once I get into gear. Smooth shifting all around. I crawled under the truck this morning and could not see any rust or extra play in the U-joints

With an Autozone close at hand, I took a few minutes to drain and then replace some of the fluid. No tell tale Gold tint in the fluid whatsoever. Hmmmmmm... ... .

Based on what you've described, I think the transmission will hold together fine for the drive home.

Just how loud is this noise?

Noise is audible enough to be heard overtop of the radio, when said radio is at a normal conversational speaking volume. Very annoying to me, as I am particularly attuned to every sound the truck and trailer make. Foreign sounds really get my attention. I am going to pick up my last vehicle in about two hours and then make the drive across the desert in the night to avoid the high heat of the Mohave.
