The 70 MPH VIBRATION is a real turnoff.

My truck is basically brand new. Had it 2 weeks and 1000 miles.

Took it in for 70 drivetrain vibration.

They told me they can't do anything about it and Chrysler is working on the issue.

I am fuming. Brand new truck

Don't buy one unless you drive it at 70 mph and you're satisfied. There are a lot of them out there like this.

Here's the other kicker...

They told me they can't test drive it cause 70 is over the speed limit around the area.

Again... ... before you take it, test drive it. Dealer service has been a nightmare. On dealer won't fix it and the other won't work on it cause i didn't buy it there and none will test drive it.

I'm basically stuck and at the wim of Chrysler. I'm making the calls and have it file setup. Customer assistance says... try another dealer.

LMAO! Tell that dealer they suck, and go to another dealer. Also post the name of that dealer so knowone else here wastes there time... .

Have someone follow you at the vibration speed and see if it is one of the wheels. I had a 96 that was fine until I put new tires on it and then came up with the high speed vibration. Switched wheels around until I found the bad one and used it as a spare. The tire dealer was just like the truck dealer. Nothing wrong. As far as being above the speed limit, just take them to the nearest interstate and show them. I think that others have had the same thing and got it fixed. Don't give up.

Cheers

This does not feel wheel related. One guy had his fixed... it was driveshaft and tranfercase related.

Many more out there with Chrysler telling the service people to hold off.

It's a higher frequency "uurrrrrrrrr"

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but there have been way to many post like this one. One or two and it's a random happening. A half a dozen..... a coincidences. Ten to 15 post and maybe a isolated problem, part run or installation error. As many as I have seen posted here and elsewhere, it's a problem. Maybe not on your truck, or maybe you can live with it, But it is making an awfull lot on new truck owners mad. I don't blame them, I would be too. Seems to be drive line related, there have been many post on rear gear wine/vibration, and seems to be all AAM related. I am sure Dodge is working on the problem, but that is little comfort for those affected. There have been several "Buy back's" for some with similar problems, and I have also read of some that suffered rear end failures. Definitely a growing problem, I guess now the Ford guys will have something to talk about .

With the lousy mpgs mine gets, I can't aford to go 70. Hope you have better luck at another dealer. If you go to where I bought mine they will tell it's not normal BUT. everything checks out ok and you just need to break it in more. Atleast thats what they told me today about my 12. 4 mpg's. Good luck.

Yo Hoot,

I'm sorry to hear you got touched by the **!+ finger! I did the same thing you did. I did'nt test drive mine above @ 70 before I bought it. I drove my truck home from Idaho and kept it below 60 for the first 500 miles. On the second day I took it up to 70 and felt like I had been kicked in the ba!!s( No Joke!) I spent YEARS dreaming, planning and waiting for my DREAM truck. On the third day I almost parked it and flew home!

Fortunately, Chrysler bought it back for other reasons. If the Lemon Law applies to you, GET A LAWYER( one that specializes. )The road of arbitration will leave you demoralized and beaten even more than you are now!

WARNING: From someone who has already paid the price, test drive your truck at 70 BEFORE you buy! There are some trucks that vibrate at the 65-75mph range. If you get one of these trucks you won't be taking many trips longer than an hour! The last year has been one of the most miserable time of my life. I had a $40,000 truck that sat in my driveway or at the dealer.

I guarantee the new one will be right!

The symptoms almost sound like the TSB on 03 regarding the power steering hose that would vibrate so bad you could feel it in the fuel pedal and sometimes the steering wheel. I'm not sure if this is a problem for the 04. 5 though. One way to check is to see if one of the power steering hoses has a relatively heavy weight on it. This was the fix for my vibration around 70mph to 75mph. Most posts here described it as a vibration around a certain RPM which I think was 2200. Just a thought.

Here it is: 19-008-03

Overview:

This bulletin involves involves installing a power steering hose containing an vibration damper.

Symptom/Condition:

A vibration may be felt in the steering wheel and/or the accelerator pedal on Diesel engine vehicles with the engine operating between 2000 and 2200 RPM.

Diagnosis:

Operate the engine between 2000 and 2200 RPM. If the vibration is present, perform the Repair Procedure. The vibration may be more pronounced with the A/C compressor on.

I get the a loud uuurrrrrrrrr slight vibration @ about 75 slightly but @ 80mph it really loud rrruuuuuuuu but slight vibration and I am @ 2600 rpms in OD. If I turn OD Off and run 3rd lockup to 60 -65 mph @ 2600 rpms I do not have it. With mine not really kicking in bad until bout 80 mph do you think I should leave it alone?

I would also like to know if trucks that do not uuurrrrrrrr are they just as smooth sounding at 80 mph as they are at say 50mph? This is my first desiel so I though the loud uuurrrrrrr was just the way they were at that rpm and speed.

I had thought about selling my 2001. 5 & getting a new 3500 dually. With some of the bugs not worked out yet I think I'll just keep it.

My 03 3500 SRW is smooth all the way to max mph. I've cruised it for a few mile @100+ and never noticed anything. Has anyone looked into a common factor? Stick, auto, R&P. AS?

I think this seems to be a problem with short wheelbase trucks.

My dually is like a limo - no fooling. I've had it to 70 (and it's amazing how fast that a truck this heavy will REACH 70) and, ahem, a bit beyond. Smooooth, and quiet. No vibrations.

I feel for the guys with these problems. Believe, coming out of my Ford PSD, with MULTIPLE reliability and drivability issues, I have been there, and done that, and it's not fun.

That's a good one. :-laf

I agree with Y-Knot... there must be a real issue here. Too many complaints to chalk up to "it's a diesel" or "nature of the beast" or "it's normal".

Jim,

Thanks for the advice. Fortunately mine doesn't seem to be as bad as yours.

If they give me the shrug treatment, this will be the most miserable time of THEIR life.

:D Our nearest freeway is an hour away. I figured tey might tell me the same thing so I never took it in. My only (slight) vibration is with air on at about 75mph. (With the 315s, that's closer to 83 so it's not a problem anymore)

I hope you can get it resolved to your satisfaction. It sucks to spend that much and nothave it right. Good luck.

BigHammer,

Go get your PS hose changed. Mine did the exact same thing at 75 on the spedo, vibration and growl noise, worse with A/C on. Got the Power Steering TSB done, smooth as a strippers... . Oh never mind, you get the idea:p
