Took a three hour drive yesterday, temperature was about -15 a start of trip. Normally, temp guage hovers around 200, but in these conditions, it looked like it was at 180. It never got above that. On the return trip, the temperature was 0, and the temp guage did get to 200. Once the sun set, the temps dropped to -10, and the temp guage dropped to the 180 area again. I wonder if it is bad to run the engine for so long with it not at full operating temp. What was odd is that I got pretty decent milage for running winter blend and speeds of 75-80; I got 18. 2 hand calcd. By the way, I don't own a winter front.

i've noticed that also but shouldn't be a problem. i also am looking into a cold front. need mine to warm up quicker because it only a mile to work. pretty bad mileage because it's all idle time. truck just barely gets over the first mark and any heat at all.

As long as it is at least 180*, you shouldn't have any problems. Not really sure how accurate the temp gauge is.
