While inspecting the engine I noticed the belt idler had red film/dust which would mostly wipe off. I have looked at a couple of others all 2001's and noticed the same red material. The servive manager checked his, red but no answer to what it is or if it's a problem. has anyone got an answer?

I like Hemi Dart's idea better then mine, but it might be rusted steel powder from the idler pulley bearings. Pull the belt off and see how the idler bearing feels.
