OK, OK, I know this is a REPEAT butt I think it bears repeating.

Was not going to ck mine today (after changing the rearend fluid) but said "what the hey". Glad I did, with 47k+ the belt had 3 full crosswise cuts. 2 were showing the cord when bent open and 1 was a "zig-zag" but almost in a perfect line. Changed it (had the GATOR ready) and now feel "safer".

We have posted before to ck it at 30k and I've been watching mine but if you don't remove it, you could miss these cuts. Just have another ready to go in. See the "Chrip" thread for info on the Goodyear GATOR belt (if you want to go that route).

Ben,
I'm with you #ad
Changed mine to the Gator at 15K. Although the Gator has a lifetime warranty, I kept the stocker for a back up. With the "Chirp" I had that is all it is good for.

Thomas,
I cannot believe I missed that #ad
I have posted and read many a thread mentioning the lifetime warranty (of the Gatorback belt) and never a word or thought about the limitation of GVW.

Therefore, off to the website I go. Low and behold, in black and white, there it is, 8,000 lb. GVW #ad

An additional 800 pounds of GVW (2500s) and they drop the lifetime warranty. Well, this did not sit too well with me at all. My real thoughts, G*$ D@&& DC try’s to screw us on the warranty, and now G*$ D@&& Good Year #ad

Well, off to the email. I managed to write a pleasant, but concerned note with applicable vehicle information and with my slightly jittering hand, clicked send. That did feel better #ad

Today, in my email was their response:

Dear Mr. Jahr

Thanks for using the Goodyear Website.

To accommodate today's heavier passenger cars and light trucks we have increased the GVW of vehicles covered by our lifetime warrantee to 9600 lb. This change is effective now and will be published in our new catalogs and distributed using the new warrantee labels. Other exemptions like commercial vehicle still applies.

Thank you for considering Goodyear for your belt and hose needs.

This should cover the 2500s, but I am not sure of the GVW of the 3500’s.

Thomas, Thank you for the post and thanks everyone else for letting me vent #ad

Can we trade in our Gatorback belt for a new one when its cracked, glazed and seperating or do we have to wait until it breaks? #ad

Good Follow-up on the warranty Big Daddy. #ad
I always thought mine was not covered either.

I asked them about a year ago to make a Super Hi-Miler Blue Hose kit for our application. Nothing yet. #ad

I have 42k on my '98 and I'm ready for a belt. I'd be somewhat lost without the great help on this site. (thanks) Would anyone have a web site or SoCal location for the Gator belt?

Stocker '98 with the auto and '92 Sierra 32' fiver.

I've seen posts on this gator many times, and all of it positive... . What makes it so good?

<font color=blue>I believe the most "Attractive" reason is it gets rid of that "Squeak" on shut down some of us have. I keep saying I am gonna pick one up. . but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Just picked up a Gatorback belt this morning at A Line autoparts. Searched the web and Summit racing was out of stock. I was surprised when A line had it. $28. 23 plus tax. Will put it on tomorrow.

Hammersley,
Easy installation. While you at it you might want to consider installing Practical Solutions Heavy Duty Idler Pulley. Another easy install.

The Gatorback can be bought at NAPA, PEP BOYS, etc. I have found Summit and Carparts.com have the better prices. Belt Part # 4080810 (for ISB 5. 9 w/air). More info on it can be found here: GatorBack

Been thinking about getting one for a spare. At 22,000 mile I hope it is a while before I need one though.

Just finished installing the Gatorback belt.
This is a snap IF you have the right tool - specifically - a two foot long 3/8" drive breaker bar. Probably my imagination but the truck seems to run smoother and quieter.
