guys on the belt replacement, how do you loosen the tention pulley?

Is there a special tool or is a 3/8 ratchet all that is needed?

IF you haven't picked up a belt yet you might want to get a Goodyear Gatorback belt. They are a little more expensive but mine has shut up the "shutdown squawk".

I too am running the Gatorback belt. I figured a little more now saves a lot of frustration on the road. The number on the Gatorback is Goodyear 4080810/8pk2055.

I have the sleeve it came in along with the old belt in my shop. I will dig it out and get back to you. I picked it up at the local auto parts store (not a chain store) and they had to get it from their warehouse, if I remember correctly. Seems like it cost about $35 a year ago.

I think I paid closer to $50 about a month ago. I probably got scalped, but oh well, you win some you lose some. It took about a week for them to order it in but it was well worth it. Much quieter than the stock belt. You are going to want to cross-check those #'s anyway with the dealer but they should get you in the ballpark.

Whatever you do ,make sure you have either a long 3/8 breaker bar or a 3/8 ratchet with a cheater bar because that spring on the tension pulley is one strong spring. The first time I tried moving the tensioner pulley I damn near got some fingers caught!! Also make sure the belt is properly lined up in the pulley grooves.

Longitudinal cracks/tears warrant replacement... .

The little cracks on the ribs also worry some folks..... but I have seen many go with these cracks for a LONG time with no problems. My general rule of thumb is to change 'em once they start to get the little cracks... . it's cheap insurance.

Keep the old (hopefully usable... ) belt under the seat... . it could save your behind one day... .

The guy needs to be trying to balance one foot on a milk crate and the other one at an angle out in thin air to be exactly what we are talking about.

ROTFLMAO :D :D

Of course, some of the smaller ones amongst us can probably walk up under it and see it from below... ..... I know, that was below the belt.

What Bill Ellenthorp says. I did get my fingers caught between the 3/8 ratchet with swivel head and the engine. Ever tap dance on top of a milk crate? It's one of those things you only do once.

Use the breaker bar and nothing else.
