I tagged these questions on to another post, then figured I sould post them seperatly.

If a rebuilder uses the pump spec plate to rebuild...

Is it correct to say that the pumps are identicle, but the settings are different, or are there built in differences in some of the internals?

Is the fuel the main setting or is there a number of things?

Can the actual HP be determined "on the bench" or is it just a range?

Too hot to be outside so just thinking, or trying to.

Thanks any info

If you set the screws on 2 pumps to exactly the same positions on the pump, it is possible to have some variance in flow, due to differences in internal parts and how they all mesh together. However, when a shop builds it and puts it on the stand, they set the flow rates, and other settings, based on what the test stand tells you about the pump. So the power screw can be in a full turn farther on one than the other, yet they both flow the same per storke.

No 2 pumps will flow and run exactly the same.

Power output will depend on a myriad of factors- turbo, exh hsg size on the turbo, injectors, timing, valve lash, air filter type, and condidtion, exhaust pipe size and restrictions (bends, muffler, etc), engine wear, compression, blowby, etc, etc. So, when you buy a 230hp pump, that is probably what an average engine with average wear and other components (i. e. stock turnbo, etc) would make. Your mileage and output may vary.

OK, Daniel, thanks for that. Good info, These pumps are pretty interesting, like a mechanical computer I suppose.

Mine is almost untouched, since at my age (64) I have just begun to realize how much trouble I can get into with a screwdriver and a hammer.

TDR has helped me bring my rig from almost usless, to almost perfect.
