Bending frame???

My friend is in the market for a new Pickup, so this past Saturday I went with him to several dealerships driving my truck. We got to this one Ford dealer(Ditschman Ford) and the salesmen that was helping my friend basically went on the whole time about how bad the Dodge is compared to the Ford becasue he saw me pull up in one and knew my buddy is considering or was considering the Dodge. Didn't really bother me until he started insisiting that he has been hearing countless stories about the frames on the Dodge bending when you put heavy loads in the back and the frame isn't even boxed in He was so convincing that he talked my friend into the Ford, I was rather annoyed that my friend actually believed this. He said why would they make it up, they sell Dodge too. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have had two pallets of slate in the back of mine and never had a problem, I think this is just more bs that seems to be working on some people.

What a line. Not only are the Dodge frames boxed but they're hydroformed. This is about the stiffist frame available.

If there really were "countless stories" we would hear them here first. Instead I haven't heard of even one 3rd gen frame problem. Therefore I feel pretty confident in dismissing the dealers claims as fairytale. Of course, we all know the frame on the Dodge IS boxes and hydroformed. I don't suppose the dealer mentioned all the problems they were and continue to have with the 6. 0 PSD? Disgusting.

How fast is to fast to run my engine at highway speeds? I have a 04. 5 600 with 3. 73 6 sp and at 85 mph I turn 2500 rpm this is just about 700 or 800 short of redline and I don't feel very comfortable winding her that tight. What do you all think? I plan on installing 33 inch tires do you all know the formula (or where I can find it) that I can use to see how many more mph I have to add to my speedo reading to be accurate.

diesel engines are designed to run at there governed RPM all day long i wouldnt worry i drive those speeds all the time and im still getting almost 19mpg. ok so i dont go much over 80...

I red lined my truck the other day at 105 mph. Later that day coasting down a streach of road called Yarnell Hill (7 miles down) I was getting 99. 9 mpg!

As far as that salesman is concerned, he's full of you know what. A hydro-formed frame is one of the strongest types of frames out there. Maybe he's just trying to take the spot light off the problem prone 6. 0 by making up crap like that. I've been to that dealer... not impressed with those guys.



As for the RPMs, DF5152 is right. These engines (atleast the Cummins) are built to run at high RPMs all day, so don't worry about it. However, I'm not too sure I'd run a Powerstall or a Duramax like that. Well, that's if you could actually get the Powerstall to even start.

Actually I did offer to let him take a look under my truck but he declined, no surprise there. He was a very slimy salesperson, even tried to give me his card in case I changed my mind about my truck. I didn't go on the test drive so God knows what else he said. That whole dealer ship is slimy anyway, purchased my previous ram and durango there and they have one of the worst service departments around, they will try and sell you anything. The biggest scam they have going is free oil changes, that way they get you in so they can talk you into other services. Can't wait to see what they talk my friend into on his first service.

It doesn't say much about your friend,I can't believe that he was DUMB enough to buy any truck on the first visit let alone a 6ohno!!!Does this guy actually work for a living!You can't blame the salesman on this one,there is a sucker born every day!

That's funny, the last commercial I saw for the phord truck advertised the new stronger hydroformed frame. I would run, not walk from that dealership. Talk to Tomeygun, member here, and Dodge dealer.

BTW, I hauled 4k, weighed on a CAT scale, from CT to VA down 95, and nothing is out of line on my truck. He is full of it.

The '05 Superduties will sport new hydroformed, boxed frames. Are these trucks on dealers' lots yet? I don't think so.



Here's an observation. . . watch a Superduty negotiate uneven surfaces or pull into a parking lot or something at an angle. . . and see how much flex there is between the cab and bed. A lot more than you're going to see on a 3rd Gen Ram.

He is a "SALESMAN". He is working in the Ford dealership. Of course he is going to bash any other vehicle but the one he is selling. He will do anything to make the sale, even bash an older Ford that drives in just to make the sale.
