It's nearly midnite and I'm hitting the sack but couldn't wait to post this. Just got done tonite installing Eric's Vulcan big line pusher relocate kit on my truck and I'd have to say this was the best mod I've done to the truck yet. Had the lift pump and vp44 replaced under warranty a month ago and was concerned w/fp readings. 11-15 idle, 10-12 cruise, 7-8 wot... w/comp cranked up I could draw her down to near nothing at wot. A few times my fp dropped to zero while driving slow and I thought what the heck is up? After putting new lines on, new fittings to replace those bs banjo bolts, and moving the stock fuel pump near the tank I now have 16 psi at idle, 15-16 psi at cruise, and even w/comp box at the 5/5 setting I can't draw this thing down to less than 10. 5 psi at wot ... ERIC YOU DA MAN! Best 100 bucks I spent lately. I knew there had to be an economical way of addressing this lift pump issue w/o spending 600-900 bucks on another pump like some have. My . 02 :)

BILLYGEE, would you share some info on this kit you installed. I want to do something like that too, so it's nice to know what am I going to do exactly.

I like to keep things simple. Adding a pusher pump is just adding another potential failure. I relocated my stock pump back in front of the tank a couple of years ago. I didn't buy a special kit... I built everything myself. I am VERY satisfied with the results! I highly recommend the modification!!!

Yes, I would add the BD auxiliary lift pump. I've had one for a year now and the fuel pressure is always a little above 17 psi. I also carry a new spare lift pump for safety. I never want to be without fuel pressure. Spend a little money and stop worring!

Sounds like a good kit. I spent about 85 bucks total on my Carter pusher. I just added a Carter 4600 pump right in front of the tank. Now it and the LP run in tandem. Bout 20 psi at idle, cant pull it below 12 loaded WOT. Way better than spending 600 or so on the big pumps.

Vulcan Kit

Install Difficulty 1-5 (5 toughest) probably a 2 I suppose. Read FP changes above. 16+ very common & whats great is the inability to pull pressures down while pulling hard under WOT. IMHO this is a HUGE benefit for anyone running an EZ or larger injectors or both... . For that matter, it just makes sense to supply the VP a more stable flow of fuel.

Forgive me for what might be a silly question, but which kit should be purchased? I'm hesitant to move the lift pump based on my level of ability, however changing fuel lines & fittings sounds easy.

Worth moving the LP?

Also, since we're near the topic, I need to add a FP gauge. Where does this get tied in, and where do I get a good one for a fair price?

Thanks in advance guys.

I bought an in-expensive 0-30 psi. liquid filled gauge, and plumbed it off the large Schrader valve on the side of the VP-44. I removed the valve core, installed a hose barb on the side of the VP, and then ran 1/4 inch fuel line into the cab and to the gauge. Cheap, inexpensive, and no chance of a sending-unit failure!

I installed the Vulcan kit over the weekend. I had installed a new lift pump two weeks ago and was maintaining 14. 5 at idle 9. 8 at WOT. With the Vulcan kit and the same pump relocated to the frame I am now reading 16 idle and 12. 8 WOT. As you can see the idle increase is not significant but the WOT is a big difference; she is now capable of pumping fuel. THe flooded suction layout has got to increase the life of the pump. My only concern is that the pump is going to experience a lot more moisture down on the rail in lieu of up on the nice dry and warm engine. I just sprayed down the unit with Boshield anti-corriosion spray and will monitor the pump condition. The install is simple and good bye to all banjo bolts. On short beds there is not much room for the pump and I had to drill and tap the frame for the bracket but other than that this is a dirt simple job and for $100 vs. the other pump repair options this is a great solution.

Cool!

I've been waiting for a kit like this. Seems to be the right solution imo - puts the pump where it can work as designed and fixes the skinny passage issue.

Two pressure test ports are present with the OEM system, one at the filter and another at the VP-44. Tech's need quick access to test system pressures.

How do you connect the schrader valve quick connect equipment after you install this kit?

Could be an issue if you go in for service.

New to this site and already got a great tip. Just got done installing the same kit in my 01 and WOW what a difference. I still think a new lift is in order for me but what an improvement. Was getting 12 psi at idle 8 psi cruising and going down to a painful 5 psi WOT. Got the kit on tonight and started it up and 13 psi idle. Thought damb not doing much. Test drove and WOW 11 Psi cruising and cannot get the pressure below 10 psi stomping on the go petal. Oo. Gonna get a new lift pump anyway and keep the old one for a spare, i'll post numbers when i do that, but WOW feel much more comfortable with 10 WOT, going to Colorado elk hinting and was leary about my fuel pressure. And man replacing LP should be a piece of cake if the moment arrives! Thanks for great tip and I'm glad I joined up with your guys!! :D

There is NO cheap fix for this guys. I've been down this road before. 1st the carter pusher pump and stock lift pump with 6-AN fittings and hose, it worked great but the pumps never lasted. So I went to the Carter 4601hp at the tank, still it provided plenty of pressure but never lasted long, my last one went 2 weeks before failure. Tha Carters are JUNK, and FYI the Cummins LP is a CARTER. I finally went with the FASS so I could stop keeping a spare LP and not worry about toasting my $1200 VP44 because an$90 pump quit again. Just one man's opinion!
