I did a search for this and could not come up with the answer I wanted..... I want a better air filter for my stock setup... best air filter? best place to order?? best prices??? thanks baron

I have had good luck with K&N. Some guys with 93s have reported some fine dust getting by the sealing surfaces due to a lack of a bolt going through the middle of the filter as on 89-92s. As for price, Diesel Injection Service has good prices. I have also heard good things about AFE, though have no personal experience with them.

As a side note- I had a K&N on my 92, then put the paper filter back on when I got my 93. EGts went up about 50 deg at cruise, and cooldown time has increased. Mileage has dropped about 1. 5mpg, but I also put the muffler back on for the little lady (it's now HER pickup). The two definitely did not compliment each other. Still over 20, though.

Air filter

I had the K&N on my 92 for about 35,000 miles. Noticed quite a bit of fine dust in the turbo and the first couple feet of tubing from the turbo. Put the stock filter back and have not noticed any difference in performance. Not very scientific but I don't need the dust in the turbo.

Well I am glad I am not the only one. I was also getting dust in the air filter hose also with the K&N filter. With the 92 air cleaner the filter is held on the with a wing nut. Now I have been told about the grease thing but if you tighten down the wing nut tight I can not see how any dust is going to get by the rubber gasket . I can see it getting by on the 93 air cleaner because the filter is just pressed on the housing. Hey jellermeyer check out the Old Smoky Mount that Old Smoky makes . You might want to put the Big Honkin Air Filter and a Outerwears prefilter on your truck.

I used to have a K&N in my truck, but I got rid of it because of the dust problem. Tried the grease trick, didn't work. Also didn't seem to matter how often I cleaned and oiled the filter, still got crap on the turbo. I now have a BHAF with an OldSmoky mount and outerwears pre-filter. The mount was an easy install and it looks real nice. When I ordered the BHAF setup I figured it would be a good time to cut a couple of big holes in the stock airbox and see what happened. The increased airflow helped spoolup and lowered EGT a bit, 50 degrees or so. The addition of the BHAF produced only a little bit of added spoolup and EGT reduction. However, the filtration is much better than the K&N and the BHAF is so huge (it's bigger than the entire stock airbox) that it probably won't need to be replaced any more than once a year. Also, with the BHAF not enclosed in an airbox it makes the turbo sound real nice too:D If you would like to know how much $ this cost, shoot me a PM.

Hey, guys. I am still making them. I need to find some time and post in the classifieds. Let me know if you are interested.

The BHAF mounts are $68 with shipping. It looks like I am starting another batch tomorrow. So, it will be one week until I can ship them out.
