Where are the ones from Mean Green and Wrangler manufactured. Do you have to buy them direct or do they have dealers nationwide.

I don't know about mean green, but wrangler you can order right off of their website...

Wrangler NW - Power Products

I use to work on EV's as an engineer back on the 80s for a small oem, and we bought lots of parts from them. They've been around for a long time.

I don't know where their alternators are made, sorry.

Checking the Wrangler website, the highest output alternator I can find listed for the Dodge-Cummins is only 175 Amps (their part # 200-130) and it's $883! That's TERRIBLE. They list 200 amp units in the $600+ range, but those pictures do not look like they will directly bolt onto a Cummins engine. Their 200 amp units are listed as 105 amp output at idle.

PA Performance has a 200Amp unit for $329. 200A High Output Alternator for 5. 9L Dodge Cummins Diesel. I have one of these on my '96 and am very satisfied with it. This makes 125 amps at idle. It is a direct bolt-on, and has a lifetime warranty.

The Mean-Green web site only lists a "High Output" unit, without saying how many amps - just 'up to' 300% more than stock. They want $399 for this "High Output" unit. This is the Mean-Green High Output - description. They list a different unit called a 200 amp alternator but it's not listed for the Cummins - just Ford and Duramax and they do not say how much they want for it.

Can anybody tell me where there are more specifics on the Mean-Green parts?

I'm real happy with the PA Performance 200 amp unit on my '96, and I'm about to order one for my '97.

I just got one from mean green. It is 200amp for 399 for a Cummins you can get a ridiculously high output for 5 times as much that is for ambulances. When you call and ask technical questions you speek directly with the owner.

GREAT info... . probably worth for me to do at a later point, and when I can finally get a winch and bumper for mine.

I've had good luck with Autozone alternators on my Dodge and my son's Powerstroke. When they fail, just carry it in and they swap it no questioned asked. Their's seem to last longer than the originals that came from the factory.

tnx for the feedback on the AZ alternators. .
Got nearly 11 years and 80K out of the stock unit, so lets see how the AZ alternator does...
I was all set to go napa, but reading the fine print, no life time for the diesel application!!!!

But AZ doesnt have that fine print when I read their T&C on their warranty... good news...

I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread, but if you try and pull more than about 120 amps out of one of those really cool hi output alternators you're going to blow your fusible links.

Mike

good point, didn't even look at the schemo to see if there was a link on the output of the alternator.
I would hope these aftermarket companies would include such info with the replacement, and talking about capacity, wire gauge ??

if I just needed brushes, that would have been a good choice, I had bad windings... ... .
