Hey guys my dad has a 2001 and it has the original batteries in it. Being that we live in Minnesota we decided it might be a good idea to change them out. So we were wondering which is the best? He does not want to go the optima route. I told him the Wal mart batteries work just fine but he is looking for something I guess a little more fancy. Thanks for the help. Nick.

6 years out of the factory batteries, uh that's a no-brainer. Got 5 out of mine.
I switched to Optima Red Tops because I got tired of cleaning and servicing standard batteries.

I'll second the Autozone Gold batteries. Normally their stuff is not that good but, I personally have had great luck with their batteries. Just put the golds in mine about 3mos ago and it's amazing how fast the engine spins over. I've also had good luck in my old Bronco with the Optima but after reading about too many problems on here about them (plus double the price) I decided against them. Just my 0. 02

Delco Voyager Marine Maintenance Free. They are a compromise between a regular starting battery and a deep cycle type. Built in spark arresters, built in hydrometer (red green black). Extra posts for accessories and handles too. Every one Ive had has lasted between 7 & 11 yrs. On my last two trucks I totally ran the 'h' out of em and they kept on pumping out the juice. Built to run trolling motors also so they take alot of charge/discharge cycles. Pretty good batts for the price if you can fine em.

Ive had yellow top optimas for 3 years now. Very pleased with the power. On the coldest days it pops right off every time. I have a red top in my other truck that has over 420,000miles on it between the 2 rigs Ive had it in and its 8 years old. Still works great. Optimas are totally worth the money.

I don't know what the replacement warranty is on the all the others, but wal mart has free REPLACEMENT (no pro-rated charge) for 2 years (or is it 3?) on the MAX batteries. They are made by Exide , which, if I'm not mistaken, so is Duralast??? Could be wrong there, but I know Exide makes batts. for several retailers. I don't think you can beat Wally world for the buck. PLUS, I don't know about optima, but there are several thousand wal marts around the world... ...

just my . 02

I still have the OE bats myself, but I'll be switching over to WM this fall.

My factory originals are shot rhight now. I like yellow tops but also heard great things about Odyssee batteries. I think that Sam's club has the lowest prices on yellow top Optimas.
